Teen Girls Unknowingly Being Idolized as Sex Symbols

Josh Gillis
Whether the recent news on actor and superstar Miley Cyrus is true, what is true is that teen girls who are seen as "Superstars" are being seen as sex symbols in the eyes of many viewers.

This is thanks to the media. This idea that sex sells is what is creating this idea of having these young superstars portrayed as sex symbols even though the superstar or even the young girls parents are even aware of. The media makes it seem normal for young girls to wear skimpy things and it isn't normal at all. This is a soft-core version of child pornography.

The recent rumors with Miley Cyrus and a supposed picture of her in her underwear is not the first case of young teen girl superstars being portrayed as a sex symbol. Brittany Spears had a similar situation; however, Brittany Spears wasn't the first case of this either. I remember seeing pictures of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I think that this is not only wrong, but can be very dangerous as well. According to the Concerned Women of America, there are more rapists in the world now then there has ever been before. This is scary because we do not know what crowds are watching these superstars on TV and who could possibly be tracking them down or stalking them.

This world today is not yet corrupt enough to let these young teen girls wear skimpy dresses or allow one to become a sex symbol. Once they turn 18, they are on their own and it is their decision. But until then, I believe that there should be more efforts to regulate what the superstars wear and what they can be seen in off the cameras as well.

There is also talk about a picture of Miley Cyrus kissing another girl. I believe that these pictures should not be put up in the first place; however, if pictures like this do somehow get put on the Internet, there should also be more efforts toward regulating pictures on news articles and other sources of the online media network. Those who have the pictures up on their websites and news rooms could also be charged for child pornography, and in my mind, should be.

It is a scary world out there, and I think that young sex symbols in this world just makes it that much scarier. How many rapist do you think will be in the world if we allowed this to keep happening? It is almost as if we are saying it is OK for older men to look at females of this age group by letting these pictures remain on the web or even by letting them be posted onto the Internet in the first place.

Are you suggesting that we make efforts to censor the internet? Put more poignantly, are you suggesting censorship? Who are you to trample human rights because of some perceived threat of rapists? What proof do you have that relatively young sex symbols in pop culture lead to higher instances of rape? Do you even know what you're talking about?

why does this article sound like it was written by a 15 year old doing a school assignment?
"How many rapist do you think will be in the world if we allowed this to keep happening?" - this sounds EXTREMELY juvinile.......just like the rest of the article.

Why do I suspect that if pictures of Miley Cyrus kissing a boy were released this guy wouldn't have an issue with it?

The problem isn't that a perfectly normal 15 year old girl with perfectly normal sexual drives desires to be seen as a sex symbol, but that much younger girls look up to her. Miley WANTS to break away from her squeaky clean Hannah Montana alter ego and grow the hell up, but Disney doesn't want to let go of their cash machine.
