Everyone is so amazed that she is alive because the earthquake hit about 15 days ago. Who can survive so long without food and water? Her chances of surviving are excellent. In fact, a few days ago, the government of Haiti actually called off the rescue search. Then the day after, a 23 year old man was found alive. Today, this girl has been found. Even the medical field was astonished by her survival. She was able to eat and hold down food. Darlene was a student at St. Gerard University and was there when the earthquake hit.
Since the earthquake has devastated the town of Port-au-Prince two weeks ago, thousands are still without food and shelter. About 200,000 people are dead. There are many groups from the United States there trying to help out in this desperate situation. These groups are working on getting a little more organized. There is chaos in certain areas and some people have become upset and are misbehaving. Some are grabbing food from other people. So, they are working to try and put some order. According to Dr. Eddy Delalue, "These things should be done in a systematic way, not a random way," Dr. Eddy Delalue, who runs a Haitian relief group, Operation Hope, said Wednesday of the emergency food program. "It's survival of the fittest: The strongest guy gets it."
We need to keep the people of Haiti in our daily prayers. I have never heard of an earthquake of this magnitude where 200,000 people have died. The Bible speaks about things like this happening right before Jesus returns to take His people to heaven. We are definitely living in the last days. If you have not given a donation yet, please do not hesitate any longer. These people are in dire need of help.
