Teenage Girls and Modesty

You look at thirteen-year olds today and you probably think, 'Oh my god, I feel so embarassed for that childs' parents!' because the truth is, that halter top and those short-shorts with the two-inch high wedge heels and all that dramatic make up, really doesn't look too good on that little girl. So there come lots of questions and wonders about the little girl and why she's dressed like Britney Spears shooting a music video in '02 just to walk around the mall with a few friends.
It could be that she wants attention, of course, which is natural to think automatically. This child could be wanting attention from friends to prove how grown up she is, make herself seem cooler, more fun, older, or just to look more important and sophisticated to them.
When a young girl needs an ego-boost or attention that makes her feel beautiful, she trys really hard to be as sexy as possible to grab as much men/boy attention possible, using revealing clothing and older looks such as more make up a little more often. So often, immodesty is highly often used to create confidence.
Although some use immodesty to grab almost the entire worlds' attention, a few girls dress innapropriately to make themselves more noticable to distracted parents or a neglecting family.
Now we all know that no matter what the reason is, there is one, and everything comes back to one thing: ATTENTION. Wether it's wrong or embarassing, after a while it gets too comforting. Yet we are always told to keep from dressing that way, buying those clothes, and acting so selfish, most any teenage girl you see will be very immodest and have no self respect.
I, myself, don't usually cover up. My point of view is that it should be fine for a fourteen year old girl to wear a halter top, a thong, or a mini skirt. As long as it with good reason, such as hot Summer temperatures, or (the thong) cannot be seen. Otherwise, it IS innapropriate, and I would never suggest dressing so rudely.
Of course during the Summer, it's harder to be more modest, so if it's during that time your friends, daughters, sisters or girlfriends are dressing less, I wouldn't be so worried about it, as apposed to wearing mini skirts in the fall and spaghetti straps in the winter.

Aly's right. I'm a teenage boy, and i'm seriously turned off by girls who dress like sluts. Do i look? Yes. Do i like? Sure. But on a deeper level, i ask myself, "That's gross, why do they do it?" It's like they value their self-esteem more than anything else. Don't they have any respect for themselves? Most of the boys i know all agree that dresses, or baggy t-shirts, are far more attractive than tiny shorts or mini-skirts.

Good points. What I don't get is the fashion trend to let your shorts slide down so your underwear shows. I also don't get girls who wear low-waisted jeans and their fat rolls over the top and hangs out from beneath their halter top. UGH!! You are right - they want attention - but do they realize it is negative attention? Young women can look strikingly beautiful - which is what guys would rather see. You are a good writer.
