Teething: Information for Babies Older Than 6 Months

Shannon Frye
Teething can occur at any time around the 6 month mark. If you child is a lot more cranky than usual, teething could be the problem. You can usually feel the corner of a tooth popping through. The gums will be very swollen and sore. If you give the child something cold and they stop crying, they are probably teething. You can give the baby a half frozen teething ring or a half frozen wash cloth. Just remember to be patient and understanding because teething is very painful especially for a little baby. You can give the baby infant tylonol drops to help relieve the pain.

Teething is often a problem every couple of months. The days that the teeth are poking through are the worst to deal with. Make sure to give your child infant tylenol and something to chew on. The baby will probably be very cranky and tired. The only good thing about teething is that the baby will sleep a lot longer than usual.

The first to two teeth to usually come in are the two bottom teeth at the same time. The top two teeth usually come in after the bottom teeth. The next teeth are the second front teeth on the top and bottom. The first set of molars usually come in after 1 year of age. The eyeteeth come in around 18 months. It seems that as soon as the baby gets all her or his teeth, they begin to fall out and you go through the whole process again.

Teething is one of the only things that will make your baby cranky unless they are getting an ear ache or getting sick. If your child has a very stuffy noise or is sneezing a lot the baby could be getting a cold. If your child is pulling at his or her ear then he or she may be getting an ear infection. It's somewhat had to distinguish what problem the baby is having. Usually, if you put your finger in the babies mouth and rub his or her gums the child will stop crying. Then you should give the baby baby infant tylenol drops and give him or her a teething ring.

Don't worry this will only last for a week or so. The next set of teeth are about 1 or 2 mouths away. There will be one day which is the worst. Be prepared for a day of crying and make sure to bring a teething right with you on the go. Usually it will be the worst in the morning and at night. Tomorrow will be a better day and teething is really hard on babies.
