Thinking of buying a new television? Thank goodness for technology! There are countless models, versions, and capabilities for you to choose from, so finding something that meets your specific need is easier (or harder if you have trouble deciding!). Better yet, thank the heavens for readily available information and consumer reports!

It's a little more difficult for the average salesman today to push a product on their customers that aren't getting rave reviews. Anyone interested in purchasing any new technological piece of equipment can do a quick search on the internet to find out what others who have already bought it have to say about it. Now when you walk into a store to purchase an item you walk in armed with the knowledge you need to make a great choice, one that's right for you.

If it's a new television you have decided to purchase, here are a few pointers to make sure that you are getting exactly what you want and what you need.

1. Don't rush a purchase. Seeing a LCD TV on sale shouldn't prompt you to get that television while you can at that "special" price, especially if you haven't done your research yet. Make sure you have looked at many different websites before you decide on which television will suit you the best at the price you can afford.

Now if you have done your research and you just happen upon the television you have your heart set on and it's on sale at the lowest price you've seen advertised, then by all means, buy it!

2. When you are doing your price comparisons, make sure you are watching online and local retailer's prices. Remember that if you purchase online you may be looking at a hefty shipping fee. Don't forget that you might find the television you are looking for on sale at a local retailer and if it's the last one you may even get a bigger discount for the item being out of the box.

3. Don't by name brand, but don't buy too unnamed brand though either! Somewhere in between is the best. The more worldly known manufacturers are going to charge you for buying their name. The brands a little less know but known just the same, will not have that extra few hundred dollars tacked on for just names sake!

The best strategy before buying your most expensive living room decoration is research, research, research! Find out everything you need to know about the product and find out what you can reasonably expect to pay for it.
