Television Mothers - Why We Love Them

B.Charp'e
I love to watch television to see how Hollywood portrays one of the hardest jobs to have: being a mother. Some TV characters are definitely written by men who have no clue, while others are right on the money.

1. KATE- John & Kate Plus 8

WHY WE LOVE HER- She doesn't hold back. I know what you're thinking; it is a reality show it does not count, but it does. She is real; she fights with her husband and the producers, she yells, screams, and is totally emotional and that is what we love. Finally someone real, someone who is not afraid to portray motherhood. She has 8 kids, and gets the job done. When I my son and I had to go back to work, I was scared. I remember watching her on television and she would stay home with her eight children during the week and work during the weekends. I thought to myself if she can raise eight children, go to work on the weekends and film a reality show then I can go to work too.

2.Sophia Getty- Golden Girls

WHY WE LOVE HER- Her character stands for what we all want in the end with children,an ever lasting relationship. Nowadays, your so tired from taking care of your children, the house and work you don't always have time to nourish your relationship with your mother. It is a shame. I know a lot of elderly people who are lonely and wish they could be Sophia Getty. Whenever I get upset with my mother I think about how I want her around until the end. After all no one knows you like your mother.

3. Jill Taylor- Home Improvement

WHY WE LOVE HER- She was proof that you can have it all.She had a family and went back to school because she wanted to. I can't tell you how many eye rolls, sighs, and chuckles when I went back to school. Why do so many people think that you can't have it all. Sure it is hard, but is not impossible. Jill Taylor represented a strong woman who wasn't afraid to say what she was thinking and to find her own happiness. Every time I second guess myself
I think of Jill Taylor.

4. Reba - Reba

Why we love her- her husband had an affair, her teenaged daughter was pregnant and yet she always got through the day. That is what motherhood is about. You never know what may happen but you always know you will be there for your children. When I was pregnant I would watch this show every night because it showed me that unpredictable things will happen and any mother will tell you that they do.
