Telling someone he or she is overweight may be interpreted as an offensive statement by the recipient, but if it is done or said in a compassionate and meaningful way, your significant other may receive with great appreciation. If you care for someone, you must manifest your concerns about their whole being, their overall health and not just their physical looks by being vocal. Many people are too scared to hurt other people's feelings by telling them that they are too fat or overweight, but this impulse actually does more damage than good. It could mean the life and death of the one you love, if you keep your lips sealed tight regarding the weight issue.

Let's put it this way: If your spouse tells you that you should watch what you're eating and cut down on fatty, recycled foods because you are getting fat, how would you feel, particularly if you are really gaining some extra pounds? At first, you will probably be upset because these are foods that you have been eating for years. But think about it. Your spouse cares about you that is why he or she wants you to be health conscious. At least, that's how I would feel if my wife is getting big. I would tell her that she has to watch her diet and avoid unhealthy foods and unnecessary snacks. Besides, there are other factors that have to be considered, like health conditions such as heart problem and diabetes. You simply don't ignore these things. Loving someone means you care for that person by being honest and truthful.

When advising someone who has some weight issues such as your significant other, the best approach is to be compassionate and caring. Be choosy with the words you will use to deliver your important message and you should focus on health matters rather than physical appearance. By doing so, you will be able to avoid any feud or argument with your spouse. You can tell her or him: "Honey, you seem to be gaining weight. Remember, you have type 2 diabetes so just pay attention on what you eat. I just don't want you to suffer from diabetes even worse that's why I am telling you this. I love you." By being nice and constructive, you are not only showing that you love your spouse but you are also proving to your significant other that you indeed care for him or her. Go ahead, show your love by telling your spouse that you care about their health. Your husband or wife will thank you for it.
