Sudden restructuring or organization of the company. Almost always this means major change for the employees. They may combine two positions into one. What does that mean to you? One of you will be loosing your job. The other person is left doing both jobs at the same rate.
New manager(s) or supervisors in your department. Many times the new managers are hired by upper management to clean house or they may want to change the way things operate in your department. Or, they may want to bring in their own team of workers. What does this mean to you? Well, if you are not open to the changes, new ways of operation or maybe you and your new boss don't see eye to eye. You may be loosing your job.
Your asked to make a daily report to an associate or designated employee. You have been handling a project for a long time by yourself and doing a great job at it too. But, suddenly you are asked to report all findings to someone else or even your boss. What does this mean to you? Well, you were asked to report to someone else so that they are aware of the total project just in case you are let go. Easy transition for the new person to take over.
You are not that go to person anymore. There was a time that you were the first one that was called if information was needed or a project needed to be done fast and correctly. What does that mean for you? Look around. Who are they calling now?
Major responsibilities are suddenly taken away. This may appear as a good thing to you. But, what does it mean for you? Your major responsibilities have been given to someone else so that if you were to be let go it is a easy transition for the company to continue its operations.
Management does not notice your great performance. You have worked very hard on a project or contract and you present it to others and your supervisor. You are given a meager thank you. When before, you were praised for your hard work by management. What does that mean to you? Well, basically, you could work your tail off to the point of being emotionally drained and no one would notice especially your boss. At this point, you are not considered an asset to the company anymore.
And the last dreaded one. You are asked to train the newbie or a new partner. What does this mean to you? Well, the company always needs a replacement just in case you are let go they will have someone who has been taught the ropes personally by you.
The above scenarios are not set in stone or are meant to scare you but are only possibilities or warning signals to you to become more aware of your position in your company. You should always have a plan of action in place if you do loose your job. Remember, gone are the days when you can feel confident that you will have your job forever.
