What at times can be a shining ray of life in a the drudgery of a job search is a temp agencies. This ingenious organization provides connections, cash, and someone to help you with your job search. Usually you do end up paying for their services but in a pretty painless way(usually they will calculate their salary into the first few months of your pay). It also can provide some much needed helps when you feel like you need something to at least tide you over for awhile. It is crucial that you are prepared before you go.

1. Research it online. This is extremely important. Even if you have to travel to the library in order to gain access to look it up. You will save a lot of time and heartache by accomplishing this step. This allows you to see what they specialize in and see if you would be interested into any of the jobs they cater too. Although temp agencies are known for clerical work, a lot of them have expanded to include quite a variety of job markets including construction, catering, hotel management, and industrial jobs. Looking the agency you are interested in online is also important because sometimes they will require an online application. This is important because most agencies do not allow you to interview until you have an application online with them.

2. Tests. This is one of the scarier aspects of a temp agency and why it is so important that your resume is accurate. A lot of temp agencies(especially clerical agencies) will when you interview have you go through a test on Microsoft Word, Excel, or Powerpoint (depending on what exactly you have claimed). This can be easily remedied because there a number of tutorials online which can bring you up to par, it is important to know about them ahead of time though. A lot of temp agencies will also work with you on improving your computer skills. Some agencies will even provide you with tutorials or extra training for free. It is also very handy to have practiced your typing speed (regular and 10 key) because this is also a pretty common test.

3. Dress up. It is tempting to just forgo the interview clothes because these people are not technically hiring you. I urge you not to take this route. It is important to have the interview with the temp agency go just as well as a regular interview. They will be promoting you if they are a good temp agency and the more they believe in you the better. Do not even drop your resume off in ordinary clothing. Make sure you make a good impression with every interaction with this company.
