Tempe, AZ Restaurant "The Heart Attack Grill" Wreaks Havoc with Dietitians Worldwide
When the #1 Item on Your Menu is an 8,000 Calorie Monstrosity Called the "Quadruple Bypass Burger", You'll Generate Some Serious Heat from Health Experts!
Jon Basso, the owner of the fast food establishment, only uses a website as the main advertising source for his restaurant because of all the controversy surrounding his high-calorie menu items such as Flatliner Fries which are drenched in lard, and the Quadruple Bypass Burger which weighs over 2 and a half pounds and includes four layers of cheese and 12 slices of bacon.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE CONTROVERSY
The Heart Attack Grill opened its doors in January 2006 to little notice, but the controversy soon started when activist groups started seeing red upon visiting the fast food restaurant and noticing that all of the waitresses were dressed up as nurses. The Arizona Board of Nursing really came after Basso with a vengeance, claiming that he had no business calling his waitresses "nurses" when they had no ability to administer CPR or any other medical procedure which degraded the nursing profession overall.
The lawsuit brought on by the nursing organization just gave Basso the needed PR he was seeking to turn his 40-seat restaurant into an overnight success. By using the world wide web audience to back up his argument that he has legal free speech rights to dress up his waitresses in any outfit he deems appropriate, the legal action was stopped.
BEING POLITICALLY INCORRECT CAN MAKE YOU RICH
Most people in the media are shocked with the huge success the Heart Attack Grill has had in its short life span so far, but Jon Basso is not surprised at all. He actually owned a few fitness clubs a few years back where he would often hear his customers talk about cheating on their diets, and how much they missed the fattening fast foods they had to give up. A light bulb went off in Basso's head, and he decided to give the public what they really crave: delicious and unhealthy fries and burgers only.
Another very un-politically correct event he puts together every year is his annual "Valentine's Day Massacre" in which he gives away free burgers and fries all day long. In just one 10 hour period, he has given away more than 900 of his artery hardening burgers and has made sure everyone has enjoyed eating more than five thousand french fries for free during the free event.
NO PLANS ON FRANCHISING THE HEART ATTACK THEME
By keeping his fast food joint very low key and singular, Basso is determined to keep all of the restaurant's personality intact for years to come. He feels there is no need to franchise his operation because he believes that no one could run another restaurant like the original one. He does, however, plan on buying 10 more locations throughout the world that he will run himself, and he is currently looking at New Orleans, Hollywood, Amsterdam and Rio de Janiero.
NEXT STOP, TELEVISION!
Yes, even Jon Basso has been bitten by the celebrity bug as he is now involved in developing a reality TV show that will be airing on the new broadband internet site, "IVNET.TV" sometime this year. Basso claims that he will be able to use his sexy nurse/waitresses as a tool that will generate a lot of attention from the young male audience who never seem to tire of drooling over hot females on television or on the internet.
The sky's the limit as far as Basso is concerned when asked about the extra attention the TV show will bring him. He feels that more restaurant owners should turn to media exposure and controversy to help propel their fast food businesses into high gear which will help to bring huge success to every business owner who uses his controversial business plan.
