Those of you who know me, know that I am a foodie. That's right, I love the look, taste and smell of food and I love trying foods of different cultures. I have been asked often which is my favorite cuisine, but that's almost impossible to say. However, Asian food has a special place in my heart. When I refer to Asian food, I am primarily referring to Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Indonesian. The spices are always unique and they each have dishes that they make their own.

I recently had lunch at the Tempo Doeloe located at 5090 Buford Highway in Doraville, Georgia. Tempo Doeloe is an Indonesian restaurant. When you first walk into the building you'll see family style seating which includes long bench tables and chairs and a little area for children that include colorful chairs. The front section of Tempo Doeloe is where all the action happens. The cooking action that is! You'll see a buffet of Indonesian food choices that range from Ayam Penyet which is a marinated fried chicken served with sambal, vegetable sour soup and steamed rice to Bakmi Ayam Nyah Niek which is egg noodle with chicken, mushrooms, fried wonton, meatballs served with soup.

Tempo Doeloe has a lunch special right now that includes 3 menu items and Rice for only $4.99. I must warn you that this meal is more than enough for lunch. You'll most likely have left overs for dinner. My favoriates would have to be the Nasi Salero Kito which is rice with spicy beef rendang, grilled spicy chicken, vegetable, tendon curry and green chili sauce and the Gule Gibas which is lamb curry soup. If you're looking for a smaller portion then you might want to try one of the appetizers that include Somay Bandung which is a steamed fishcake, tofu, potato with spicy peanut sauce or the Martabak Telor or Ma-Lor for short which includes deep fried crepes stuffed with ground beef, egg scallion and onion.

Most likely you'll be really thirsty from eating all of that wonderful Indonesian food, so that have a large choice of beverages such as Es Teler Seger Bener which is avocado, young coconut, jackfruit, condensed milk, Sekoteng which is made with palm seed, bread, mungbean, milk and ginger and my favorite is the Soto Jasmine tea served cold. Of course if you desire a more traditional beverage, Tempo Doeloe also serves soft drinks, sweet tea and juices. Tempo Doeloe is opened Monday-Wednesday, closed on Thursdays's and opened again on Friday-Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Midnight. The bottom-line: Family friendly, Great Indonesian Food, Price point from $4.00 to $8.00 for lunch or dinner.
