Temptation

Betty Malone
Today,

A small green snake slithered my way

Startled I tripped, fell to the ground

Eye to eye we stared

His gaze slanted and hooded

Mine simply amazed

I blinked first and He was gone

Across the grass and into the field beyond

I watched Him flee, smoothly sliding away

Heart beating, I wished Him back again

I cut angelica leaves and dug amaranth root

Ground them together with memory stone

A wanton witches tea brewed in a fragile cup

In hopes of luring Him here again

That sudden flash of knowing

Left me breathless, wondering

If summer's passion could be lived again

Before winter solitude comes calling

    Nice and tempting poem.

I admire your courage (and poetry). I found a rat snake in the henhouse a couple weeks ago and did a different sort of celebration including loud vocalizations and frantic movements resembling a tribal dance on steroids.

Good poetry, She-Who-Can-Stare-Down-A-Snake and live to tell it.

Hey, this is good - The snake is usually known for "luring" Eve, but here you say you want to lure the snake. Nice touch.
