They can be used as drawer dividers. Is your junk drawer (s) similar to mine? You know that the item you are searching for is there, but where? Only after you basically take everything out do you find that particular item. And then what do you do- if you are like me, you dump everything back in there, shut the drawer and forget about it until the next search. Instead, place a plastic ice cube tray in there, or more than one even, and use them to sort and store. I did this weekend and do you know - that drill bit part I was searching for was no longer difficult to find! Chaos to order for less than a dollar!!!

Is your workbench crazy? Is your tool box overflowing? Break out the plastic trays. No more only finding one particular nail or screw when you need two or more. Amazing-how simple organization can save you time and money. All those organization shows know what they are talking about huh? Clutter has its purpose, but not here.

Have you ever taken apart something and then, not be sure how to reassemble it properly?
Never fear, ice cube trays are here. When we recently installed ceiling fans, we used an ice cube tray to place the parts in sequential order - of course, this was only after we first installed it WRONG and it did not work. Taking it down and apart and then reassembling proved much easier being organized.

We use ice cube trays to make batches of raw food for our animals. After the batch is made we store them in the trays. Once frozen we, run the tray under hot water and out the perfect size food cubes pop, ready to thaw in the fridge for the next meal time. Since making batches of raw food for animals can be so time consuming, this little bit of ingenuity is a time saver. At least until time to make the next batch.

Do you have children? Especially creative artistic ones? Let them mix paint to their hearts content in a plastic ice cube tray- over newspaper of course. Imagine the fun they will have. Imagine the joy you will experience. Imagine the little to no clean up!!!

Was there a sale on fresh farm market eggs? Did you go a little nuts? Are all those eggs taking up too much space in your refrigerator? Medium size eggs are the perfect fit for the tray slots. Simply place them in the tray and freeze away. Pop them out and place them in a plastic bag as needed to thaw in the refrigerator. Defrost as many as you need. Craving a hard boiled egg, but know that you enjoy eating more than one? Just take one egg out to defrost at a time. An office party? You can defrost several and make a perfect batch of deviled eggs.

Do you enjoy chopping and dicing food? Sometime I do, but often times, it cuts into time I do not necessarily have. Store pre cut food in trays and take out in the morning to defrost in the refrigerator while at work. Running late after work, no problem. Dinner prep time has been cut in half with these handy little trays. They are perfect for storing diced onions, peppers, carrots, broccoli, as well as perfect size for storing frozen fruit servings.

Did you make too much soup? Pour the rest in an ice cube tray. Pop out the soup cubes, when frozen and take to work in a microwavable thermos. Quick and easy lunch with no fuss. If there is only a small amount of soup left, not enough for a meal- freeze it and use as seasoning for future meals.

Do you find that you have several half open bottles of wine? You enjoyed the red, but the next time you were in the mood for wine, you uncorked a bottle of white? What to do? Freeze the left over wine in a plastic ice cube tray. Pop out when needed for use in pasta sauces, casseroles, or stews.

Keep a plastic ice cube tray near your washer and dryer. As you find change, pens, rubber bands, and whatever else, place in the cubes for easy sorting and viewing. No more - (I know I saw that somewhere???? syndrome we have all encountered.

Wow, next time I use a tray, I'll hafta think twice about sticking it backinto the freezer!
Great ideas! Way to go. Wonderful article. :-)
Lori, these are very creative and practical suggestions! I expecially love the ones about the wine and the chopped veggies.
Great ideas, Lori. Here's one I do, to fit in with #'s 7-9, when I buy lemons, limes & oranges: I zest a few & keep the rinds in ice cube trays, covered with a little juice to keep them potent. I then juice the fruits & freeze some tray compartments of it. Just like the wine, toss a cube of citrus juice or zest into your pan while cooking.
