Ten Best iPad Apps - Fun & Convenience in the Palm of Your Hand

John Barnett
The apple iPad might not have lived up to all the hype, but that doesn't mean there aren't some great apps to be found on it. For those willing to deal with the more disappointing features of the iPad, there's fortunately still plenty to enjoy. Has it found the killer app that will push it to celestial success? No, not yet... But these should do enough anyway.

1. Netflix

As if this list of great apps could begin with any other. The Netflix streaming app is a treasure to anyone with a love of movies and a Netflix account. The streaming is fairly fast, the video quality is desirable, and the interface is user-friendly. Not to mention the massive (and still growing) library of available movies.

2. iBooks

Now while movie fans are kicked back watching Mystery Science Theater 3000, literature lovers can make sure of Apple's excellent iBook service. While the selection isn't quite what everyone would want it to be, it's getting there.

3. Yahoo! Entertainment

This fantastic app deserves to sit right at the top of your iPad screen. This fast, helpful search engine and entertainment hub does a great job of keeping in the loop. Keep yourself entertained with videos, news, and trivia.

4. TextNOW

This neat little purchase gets you free texts for live! The system is easy to use and reliable as well as fairly robust in features. It might not rise to Skype levels of fame, but it deserves a spot on your iPad.

5. Marvel Comics

For comic fans feeling left out by the various eReaders on the market- here is exactly what you've been waiting for. Get ready to experience the X-Men, Spiderman, and all your other favorite Marvel Heroes on the go. Though, granted, you could before with comic books. Well, it is more convenient now.

6. DC Comics

Not everyone likes Iron Man and the Fantastic Four. To appease those that prefer Batman and Green Lantern, I turn your attention to the DC Comics app. Hurt only by the slightly less popular character base as compared to Marvel.

7. AP Mobile

Every iPad owner needs at least one news app. All things considered, this is the one I'd suggest you go with. The text is easy to read, the stories are always interesting, and the image quality is great.

8. Friendly

With more and more people getting addicted to pretentious social hubs like Facebook and Twitter, it's no wonder this $0.99 app has gotten so popular. Without an official Facebook app, users can be content with this alternative of photos, personal info, and social interaction.

9. Photoshop Express

There isn't much to say about this superb photo editing app. It's a lot of fun and very intuitive for image junkies.

10. ABC Player

This excellent television app is hopefully a sign of great things to come as it does a great job of offering a TV-experience on your iPad. The quality is top-notch and the loading surprisingly quick. Let's just hope we get more like it!
