Ten Best Loved Books of All Time for Ages Nine to Twelve

Sonya Roberts
Reading is something that can start at a very young age. A parent can read to a child everyday when they are small. As the child grows the joy of reading will stay intact and they will start developing reading skills while going through school.

Reading books can be very rewarding for a child. A child can learn to use their imagination while reading a book. A child who reads a book can stimulate their mind. Reading words and imagining the story as they read can keep the mind active.

During the school year a child will read, write and work with numbers everyday, which keeps their minds stimulated. When summer comes and school is out a child might stop reading, writing and working with their numbers. If they do their minds won't stay stimulated like when they were in school.

Always make sure that reading material is available to read. During the summer go to the public library. The library has wonderful books for children to read.

Here is a list of 10 reading books for children ages 9 to 12. A lot of these books are old favorites that we as children read ourselves. Children today will love these books as much as we did.

1. Charlotte's Web - by E.B. White
2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - by Roald Dahl
3. A Wrinkle in Time - by Madeleine L'Engle
4. James and the Giant Peach - by Roald Dahl
5. Mr. Poppers Penguins - by Richard Atwater
6. Island of the Blue Dolphins - by Scott O'Dell
7. The Boxcar Children - by Gertrude Chandler Warner
8. The Phantom Tollbooth - by Norton Juster
9. Matilda - by Roald Dahl
10. Anne of Green Gables - Lucy Maud Montgomery

There is something for everyone to read on this list. Most of the books can be read by both boys and girls. There are a few books that are more geared toward boys and a couple of books that are just for girls.

There are hundreds of very good books for children. The books children can read come in a variety of categories. Some of the categories are fiction and non-fiction chapter books, sports books, joke books, how-to books, poem books, animal books, craft books and the list just goes on.

Reading is fun and should always be encouraged. Encouraging a child to read is as easy as listening to them read, getting them a library card, taking them to the library, getting them a book on their birthday and getting them a book at Christmas. Make reading a fun family adventure.
