Ten Casual Dates

Melissa Matters
Often times, dates can be expensive, boring and stressful. One party may feel compelled to spend hours getting ready. The other person may feel pressure to buy flowers and eat at an expensive restaurant. However, this does not have to be the case. Enter the casual date. The casual date offers all the fun and intimacy of a typical date. However, the setting and activity is more relaxed. These are the top ten best casual dates.

#1 Picnic

The picnic date can be relaxed or extremely relaxed. Essentially, all one needs is a blanket and some simple food. A picnic can take place at the park, at the beach, on a rooftop, or even on that patch of grass outside of the dorm room. The food can be homemade sandwiches or sandwiches from a sub shop. If the picnic is at a public spot, then there will be plenty of people watching to see and sites to discuss.

#2 Movie Night

Going to the theater brings about a whole stress element. Deciding on a show, parking and making sure the tickets aren't sold out are three of the pitfalls. In addition, there is the ever-increasing ticket price and four dollar soda that puts a wrench in everything too. Thus, stay at home and watch a movie. Netflix.com even has plans where the account holders can watch movies instantly. Or try hulu.com for many online movies. Whip up some microwave popcorn and the date is ready to start.

#3 Coffee talk

For a few bucks, the local coffee house provides comfortable chairs, mellow music and good conversation. The coffee shop is a wonderful place to meet someone new. After all, this date can be twenty minutes or several hours. Just make sure the coffee is good.

#4 Bowling

This may a junior high date but it is also fun for adults. Bowling is something most people do not do very often so it is always amusing. Most people are not expert bowlers too, so it is funny to see who gets the most gutter balls. Again, this is a cheap date.

#5 Hiking
Hiking is a sporty date that requires sweats and good shoes. All that is needed is some water and a destination. Make sure to take pictures at the top.

#6 Zoo

Put on a pair of jeans and hop down to the local zoo. The zoo is inexpensive and there are tons of sites to see. This is an especially great date if both people have passes to the zoo. With an endless amount of shows, exhibits and furry creatures, this date can be packed with excitement. Grab some cotton candy and spend the day laughing at all of the quirky things animals do.

#7 Baseball

Baseball games are always informal. Daters can take part in the wave, 7th inning stretch and maybe even catch a foul ball. Plus, who can resist peanuts and hot dogs. There are many seat options for fewer than ten dollars. Buy tickets beforehand at ticketmaster.com.
#8 Lunch

Something about a lunch date screams casual. This is a good date for getting to know a person without an ultra romantic setting. Lunch is viewed as unfussy. Thus, the location does not have to be overlooking the beach. Wine and candles are unnecessary too. However, the couple can still have a wonderful time.

#9 Miniature Golf
Like bowling, this is a once a year date. The enchanting little houses and windmills are always amusing. The miniature golf place probably also has food and maybe other games for hours of fun. Again, jeans and t-shirts are the attire for this casual date.

#10 Ice Cream

Going out for ice cream is a nostalgic date because it brings people back to their childhood. Like the coffee date, this date is short and sweet. Eat at the shop, take a walk or take the treats home to add your own toppings. If the people involved are watching their calories, then go to the closest yogurt shop.

I love the picnic idea. When hubby and I courted, I made a night time picnic complete with lobster salad on croissants and brought a candle. Romantic!
