Ten Creative Ways to Pass the Time During a Snow Day

Fun Projects for a Winter's Day

Winter snow days provide an excellent opportunity for a person to catch up on projects or indulge in some creative activities. These ten suggestions will help you pass the idle time a snowy winter day brings.

Organize Photos

If you have been ordering 4 by 6 prints of your favorite prints from online services such as snapfish and Kodak without archiving them as they arrived, then organizing your photos can be a fun and creative way to pass the time. Whether you are into high-end scrapbooking or if shoeboxes are your preferred storage method, the lack of travel on a heavy snow day will afford you all the time and space you need for spreading your photos out and organizing them.

Sort Out a Closet

The availability of time and home space provided by a snow day also creates a great opportunity to pull out all of the items in your closet and organize them according to season, style, and color.

Make a Model

If you enjoy working with model cars, houses, or miniatures, then the stillness of a winter's day can be just what you need to start a new project or complete an existing one. The hours will fall away while you are engrossed in crafting a model.

Create a Video Project

Taking any video clips you have amassed, or even numerous snapshots, and compiling them into a slideshow or video is a great way to pass the time on a winter day. Throw in a few songs about snow, and you will feel right at home!

Marble Racetrack

A great snow day project to create with the kiddies is a racetrack or obstacle course for a marble to pass through. Paper towel cylinders and toilet paper tubes can both provide great tunnels and pathways for fun!

Domino Freefall

Another family friendly winter "game" is to create domino patterns on a hard floor or tabletop and then take action shots or videos of the dominos as they tip over in a cascading pattern.

Catch Up on Net Reading and Comments

For people who like to read blogs are other forms of online content, sometimes commenting takes a back seat to other more pressing concerns. On a snow day you can go through your favorites file and leave comments for some of your favorite blog authors or content creators!

Gather Magazines and Recycle

Magazines have a way of piling up anytime of year, and winter days are an excellent opportunity to go through magazines and discard any publications that are over a two months old. Put all of the old magazines in the recycle bin or donate them to a local hospital or nursing home!

Watch a TV Show

With the wide availability of TV shows on DVD, a snow day is a rare opportunity to sit down and watch an entire season of a TV show you have meaning to catch up on or check out for the first time.

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

One of the best things you can do on a snow day is to take a trip down memory lane. Sit down with your computer and Google up toys you remember from your childhood or watch YouTube videos featuring music specials from yesteryear!

Snow days are a rare opportunity for an unplanned break from daily life and should be cherished as such!
