Ten Embarrassing Bodily Functions

Janet Trieschman
There are tons of top ten lists. This one is a bit unique as it lists the top ten embarrassing body functions. I guess it depends upon what's your age for you to consider them funny, embarrassing or just the facts of life. While these can all be embarrassing from one time to another, take comfort in knowing everyone does it!

Farts

No matter what you think or have been told, everyone farts. Every living human farts and even a recently dead corps can fart. Whether they are silent or loud, on average, people fart about fourteen times a day.

Burps

A burp, a belch, belching or ructus are all names for the same thing. Much like a fart, a burp is the body excreting gas. Burps can have sound and smell, also like farts. While some are embarrassed by an escaped burp, in many cultures it is verbal sign similar to applauding for the cook that the meal was good. It can also signal the end of a meal.

Perspiration

A body excretes sweat or perspiration to cool the body's temperature. While it is natural, it may be embarrassing for the person doing so. Sweating can also happen during embarrassment or with being nervous. Sweat can have an odor based upon what one might have eaten, medication and illness.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea while a serious issue, it can also be embarrassing because of the inability to control it. Diarrhea is a term used to describe either the volume or liquidity of stool. It can be either acute (short term) or chronic (long term). Diarrhea can be accompanied by cramping and pain in your stomach; signaling the next presence of diarrhea.

Mucus

Mucus is naturally produced and can leave the body through the nose, mouth or throat. It becomes embarrassing when you have issues with producing too much and not being able to contain or control it. A sneeze can drench someone nearby without warning.

Hiccups

Most hiccups are not serious and have no reason for occurring. But we all know, having the hiccups at an inopportune moment can cause a healthy round of giggles.

Stomach Grumbles

Often associated with being hungry, stomach grumbles are not controllable. They can illicit giggles and at times are unbecoming and inappropriate.

Acne

It's the tell tale sign of puberty, acne is embarrassing. You can try to cover it up. You can try to keep your skin clean. Often times it is not the cleanliness of your skin but rather the food you are digesting or the chemical make up of your system. Acne can be painful, not just emotionally but to the touch. Picking at it can aggravate it more and might cause scaring.

Vomit

Also known as throwing up. Usually expelling the contents of one's stomach. It's noisy, it's messy and it smells to high heavens. It can be embarrassing if you've been drinking with friends and you cannot hold your liquor resulting in tossing it. You'll be labeled a weakling, and can be teased forever. Motion sickness can cause nausea resulting in throwing up. This too can be embarrassing if you are with friends driving in a car or at the amusement park.

Crying

Everyone has cried at one time or another in his or her life. Crying in front of people can sometimes be embarrassing. Men don't like to show emotions and crying for them can truly be an embarrassing moment. Some associate crying as a sign or weakness.
