- Many people think that many countries are dependent on oil for fuel and our heavy use of oil is leading to many negative effects.
- If we keep using the amount of oil we are using a year we will run out of oil in the next three hundred years.
- Nuclear reactors are the cheapest form of alternative energy but are the most dangerous due to melt downs.
- Another method is compressed air to power vehicles. Compressed air costs more to develop then how much we are paying for oil due to how it needs to be specially designed to keep the atoms stable.
- Hydrogen powered cars are fairly new and do cost a lot but the technology is expected to drop at least fifty percent in cost by two thousand twenty so it might eventually be affordable for every American to own a hydrogen powered car.
- A recent discovery shows that when water is exposed to a high powered laser the water can ignite. This is due to the laser separating the atoms and as long as the laser stays pointed at the water the water will burn. This discovery may make water powered cars possible in the near future. Unfortunately the laser that is able to ignite the water is military grade and is very expensive.
- Oil is contributing to pollution and global warming and the sooner we can find different and cheap ways to power our cars and home we will continue to burn oil and ruin the Earth.
- Since price is still a issue diesel engines are very popular since they are cheap and are very fuel efficient. Also all MTA busses run off fuel cells which are replaceable energy sources that do not pollute the air as much as regular gas.
- E85 is also very popular it is basically corn oil mixed in gas and some Chevrolet cars only run on E85 ethanol. Right now E85 costs as much as regular gas but in time E85 will cost less then a third of regular gas prices.
- The government is trying to control America's problem of dependency on oil by offering millions in funds to scientists studying alternate fuel sources. The government also offers tax breaks to gas stations and car buyers the purchase cars that run on E85 ethanol.
