Ten Fairy Makeup Tips for a Halloween Costume

An Easy Costume + Beautiful Makeup = Great Halloween Fun

Elizabeth V. Miller
Looking for an excuse on Halloween to be beautiful with elegant makeup and extra glitter? How about dressing up like a fairy! Here's a list of ten tips for applying fairy makeup as part of a Halloween costume. Easily add to your special makeup look as many fairy accessories as you'd like--wings, a wand, a fancy dress, whatever you want--and you're ready for a night of fun.

Fairy Makeup Tip #1: Foundation & Concealer

Even though it's Halloween, you don't want to completely throw your everyday makeup routine out the window. Start with a nice base of foundation, powder and concealer--or whatever it is that you normally use to get your skin looking its best. This will give you a great canvas on which to begin applying your costume-specific makeup.

Fairy Makeup Tip #2: Colored Eye Shadows

Save the neutral eye shadows for another day-fairy makeup screams out pinks, purples, and blues. Use a combination of light-colored shades that work well with your skin tone and can blend together well.

Fairy Makeup Tip #3: Eye Liner

Even though it's a fairy look you're going for, you can still use an eye liner to add depth to your lashes. If you're going to apply a dark liner, you may just want to focus applying it on the outer edge of the top lash line.

Fairy Makeup Tip #4: Eyelashes

If you want a simple finish to your eye makeup, simply add a coat or two of your regular mascara. If you want a more fun and dramatic twist, buy and apply a set of false eyelashes. You can obviously find fake eyelashes in brown and black, but during the Halloween season you should be able to find a variety of colors to choose from.

Fairy Makeup Tip #5: Blush

Just because you're a fairy, doesn't mean you have to look washed out. You can opt out if that suits your look better, but it's totally reasonable to apply a little bit of blush to the apples of your cheeks if so desired.

Fairy Makeup Tip #6: Bronzer

Similarly, you can wear a tiny bit of bronzer if you really can't stomach going without. But, unless your Halloween objective is specifically a bronzed fairy, you'll probably want to keep the tan to a minimum.

Fairy Makeup Tip #7: Lips

Perfect for a fairy look is a light pink lipstick. To help keep the look on for the whole night, apply lip liner first and then cover with a stick and/or gloss of your choice.

Fairy Makeup Tip #8: Face Glitter

Fairy looks were made for glitter! Even if your shadows and glosses already have glitter pigments in them, it's completely fair game to add some more sparkle. If you don't want to look like a glitter blob, focus your glitter-applying efforts on the brow bone, cheek bone and lips.

Fairy Makeup Tip #9: Body Glitter

Depending on your costume, you may want to add additional glitter on your arms, neck, and legs. If you plan on having a date for Halloween, you may want to first double check that he's okay with the idea of glitter. If he's opposed, you may want to rethink wearing a lot of body glitter (or rethink the choice of date--either way).

Fairy Makeup Tip #10: Purse

Even if your makeup looks great when you're heading out the door, it's always a good idea to pack a few essentials in your purse. I'd recommend at least bringing a compact with a mirror and some extra lip gloss to apply as needed throughout the night.

Good luck!

Sounds so glamorous. I don't think I could do fake eyelashes though. I'd be afraid they would either fall off or pull my real eyelashes out when I took the fake ones off lol
