Elizabeth Edwards, former wife of Senator John Edwards, died of cancer on December 7, 2010. Her story will live on for her courage and class.

Don Meredith died on December 6, 2010, of a brain hemorrhage at age 72. A former NFL football star, he will be remembered as "Dandy" Don, one of the famous trio (with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford) as the broadcasting team for ABC's Monday Night Football.

Director Irvin Kershner died at age 87 on Thanksgiving, 2010. He directed the "Star Wars" sequel "The Empire Strikes Back".

Beloved actor Leslie Nielsen died at age 84. The Canadian-born actor went from drama to comedy as the hapless medical doctor in the hit movie "Airplane!" He then won comedic acclaim as detective Frank Drebin, the accident-prone cop in "The Naked Gun" comedy movies.

Actor James MacArthur played "Dano" in the original version of television's "Hawaii Five-0" with Jack Lord. He was the son of actress Helen Hayes and playwright Charles MacArthur. He was 72.

Tom Bosley, who played the patient, understanding father of Richie Cunningham on television's long-running "Happy Days," died at 83. Even the Fonz respected Mr. C.

We lost another TV parent in 2010. Barbara Billingsley, who was supermom June Cleaver died at 94. Who among us has not learned something about life from the "Leave it to Beaver" series?

Actor Harold Gould was 86 when he died this year. Perhaps most well known for his role as Valerie Harper's father on television's "Rhoda", Gould also had a signature role in the Redford/Newman romp "The Sting".

Mitch Miller, who asked Americans to "Sing Along With Mitch" on television and records, died at age 99 in 2010. Famous for his trademark goatee, Miller was an executive at Columbia Records in the pre rock and roll era. "Sing Along with Mitch" began as a series of records before the TV show debuted in 1961.

I have a half brother named Mitch and we loved to watch Mitch Miller with his little goatee when we were kids. And I hate that Sheriff Tupper died. Who will Jessica show up now? He was way better than the guy that replaced him.

Well, the politicians, politician's wives, and sports casters I did not know. However, the actors I did. Mitch Miller (oddly enough), I did. I was unaware of the death of the son of Helen Hayes until I read your piece. He was also in Swiss Family Robinson, Third Man on the Mountain, and many other productions. Tom Bosley of Happy Days was also in Murder She Wrote as the sheriff for the first three seasons. I loved the guy. Oh, and he was in the "Father Dowling" series with Ricky Nelson's daughter.
