Ten of My Favorite Eric Clapton Songs

Mike Spain
Eric Clapton turned 65 the other day so I thought I would come up with a list of my favorite Eric Clapton songs. Eric Clapton has been recording music for about 45 years. To narrow the list down I decided to leave off songs he did in the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Cream, Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith, collaborations with BB King and J.J Cale, session work and blues covers. I also did not include any live songs. My list comes out to be ten of my favorite songs by Eric Clapton covering a span of 1970 to 1997.

Change the World

The song is from the movie Phenomenon starring John Travolta in 1997. The song is an acoustic song teaming Eric Clapton with Babyface.

Tears in Heaven

The song Tears in Heaven was featured on the Rush Soundtrack in 1992. Everyone knew this song was about the death of his son Conner who had fell out of a window in New York. A similar song Circus is along the same lines.

Old Love

Old Love is a song of off the 1989 album Journeyman. I just like the song.

Holy Mother

Holy Mother is a song off of the 1986 album August. It is a sad song. Holy Mother is a powerful song.

Forever Man

Forever Man comes from Eric Clapton's 1985 album Behind the Sun. I like this song because it is a jam song which rocks. It has a soaring sound similar to Layla, the original version not to be confused with the unplugged rendition.

I've Got a rock and Roll Heart

I've Got a Rock and Roll Heart is from Eric's 1983 album Money and Cigarettes. It is a fun song, about a guy telling a woman what he likes before they get too serious.

Wonderful Tonight

Wonderful Tonight is a great ballad from Clapton's 1977 Slowhand album. Most guys would probably stay out of the dog house a little longer if we told our love interests "yes you look wonderful tonight."

All Our Past Times

All our Past Times is a song from Eric Clapton's No Reason to Cry album from 1976. All Our Past Times is Another solid song from Eric Clapton.

Let it Grow

Eric Clapton's Let it Grow is a highlight from his 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard. The song kind of builds up from the beginning and finishes well.

Let it Rain

Let it rain is from Eric Clapton's self titled album from 1970. Let it Rain is Another song which goes into a guitar jam.

Good list Mike. In a book by one of Eric's girlfriends Eric nicknamed her Layla in 1970; and says Pattie wasn't connected to the song. The woman has several kids by Eric, one named Layla.
