Ten of My Favorite Trace Adkins Songs

Trace Adkins first grabbed my attention with "Lonely, Won't Leave Me Alone" (Mary Danna,Jody Alan Sweet). The voice and delivery was awesome and he had another fan in a mass of them. I had a very lonely time in life years before this song was recorded so it made perfect sense.

The beautiful "The Rest of Mine" (Trace Adkins, Kenny Beard) was written and sung for his new bride Rhonda during their wedding ceremony. The song tels her he won't promise to love her for the rest of her life but that he will love her for the rest of his. "'Til my last breath, 'til I'm called on high 'Til the angels come and I see the light To the very end, 'til I give in To the last beat of my heart..." What wife couldn't love that song if she is blessed to have a husband love her like that and I know I do.

"Out of My Dreams", (Steve Dale Jones, Doug Nichols) "Snowball in El Paso" (Trace Adkins, Trey Bruce) "Every Light In The House" (Kent Robbins) are all poignant songs about someone who has had their love leave them. Every Light shows a man shining with hope that she will come home to find the lights on just for her. Everyone needs hope and a beacon of light.

As a parent "Then They Do" (Jim Collins, Sunny Russ) and "You're Gonna Miss This" (Lee Miller) speaks to the heart. All too soon children grow up and no matter what you say to them there will come a day that they will look back and miss something of their time with you.

"Arlington" just gets to me. It is patriotic, family meaningful, sad and very touching. The singer tells of being brought to Arlington as a child to his Granddaddy's grave. "Son, this is what it costs to keep us free". He later goes on to let the listener know he is proud to have this piece of peaceful property and that his granddad had saluted him the day he was brought to the "sacred ground". Ah, any relative of a military man has to be touched by this song.

I laugh every time I listen to "I Took Her To The Moon" "Mark Nesler, Byron Hill). The poor 'ol boy just can't understand the power he had when he took his lady to the moon and now he can't get her back. She goes to the mall and buys things no man would buy. She has trimmed the hound dogs nails and powdered him up. She has even bought soap that he isn't allowed to use! 'Fess up guys, how many of you have been bewildered by we women that you romanced and 'won'. Too funny!

Trace Adkins is a multifaceted person. He is a Daddy to 5 girls, a singer, songwriter, performer, guitarist, business man. He is now one of the entertainers on Celebrity Apprentice. I've never cared to watch Donald Trump and company until I knew Adkins and Stephen Baldwin were going to be part of the charity based fund raising season. Trace is trying to raise funds for the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network which helps people with severe, life threatening food allergies. This touches his heart because he and Rhonda have a six year old daughter who has these terrifying allergies. I'm really rooting for him to be able to win some of the Celebrity Apprentice funds for the Network. It will help save lives.

Adkins has written a book, "A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions From a Free Thinking Redneck". I'm sure this will be a very interesting read.

My final song which I would pick for my top ten Trace Adkins songs (this week) is "Wayfaring Stranger" (Traditional Arranged by Trace Adkins and Capitol Records Producer Scott Hendricks) I love this song and the Adkins rendition is excellent. It's rather poignant to me because I've listened to him speak about his mother getting after him from time to time about God. My father has been gone for 25 years, a horrible cancer death, so when he sings, "I'm going there to "meet my father I'm going there no more to roam". It gets right to me.

He's been shot, once crushed when a tractor rolled over on him and once cut his finger nearly off. He was quoted at countrymusic.about.com "Scars build character they say, so I ought to be a character by now."

I haven't listened to his newer material but he was one of my intros into actually listening to and enjoying Country ...for a spell.
