Ten Fun Halloween Songs

Amanda Roddy
If you are planning a Halloween party you need good Halloween songs. The right Halloween songs set the mood for the party and get guests in the spirit of Halloween. "Thriller" and "Monster Mash" come to mind when thinking about Halloween songs, but I'm not including them here. They are still favorites among my tunes but I believe there are others to enjoy as well. I just ran across a few Halloween songs you may not have thought about.

"Witch Craft" Frank Sinatra

Who would think of putting Sinatra on a list of Halloween songs? The 1950's single is sure to please your guests. The singer blames witch craft for falling in love. It has nothing to do with Halloween but the title fits perfectly with the day.

"Superstition" Stevie Wonder

Superstitions fall right in with the theme of Halloween. Stevie Wonder's 1972 single "Superstition" will get your guests on the dance floor. It has great guitar leads and vocals.

"The Devil in Disguise" Elvis Presley

The word devil appears in countless song titles. Nothing can liven up a party like Elvis. You may even have guests dressed like him. He sings as song about a pretty girl who isn't what she seems. This makes a wonderful addition to your Halloween songs.

"Nightmare on My Street" D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

"Nightmare on My Street" parodies the movie "Night Mare on Elm Street". It tells of a fictional encounter with Freddy, the main character. New Line Cinema wasn't pleased and sued for copyright infringement.

"Jaws" Theme

Some movie theme music provide good selections for Halloween songs. Jaws strikes terror in the hearts of movie fans. You may never go to the ocean again after seeing this flick. The music alone is enough to send chills up your spine.

"Bewitched" Theme

Witches are commonly associated with Halloween. Play the theme from the classic 1960's sitcom for a change of pace. "Bewitched' also has a vocal version sang by Peggy Lee.

"Angie Baby" Helen Reedy

"Angie Baby" was a huge single for Helen Reedy. She never revealed the true meaning of the song instead leaving interpretation up to listeners. The theme of the song is about a woman with mystical powers living in a make-believe world.

"The Devil Inside" INXS

Here is another on the list of Halloween songs with devil in the title. It has an upbeat tempo suitable for dancing. The whispering vocal adds an eeriness to the song.

"Ghost Riders in the Sky" Various Artists

Ghosts are commonly associated with Halloween. "Ghost Riders in the Sky" is about ghostly cowboys. The song gives me goose bumps just listening to it. Different artists sing "Ghost Riders in the Sky" but I like Johnny Cash's version best.

"Addam's Groove" M.C. Hammer

How about playing the "Addam's Groove" at your party? " Addam's Groove" is from the 1991 motion picture "The Addam's Family. It tells a tale of the singer's creepy neighbors the Addam's family in hip-hop fashion. You can play this tune along with the original T.V. show theme.

These are my choices for Halloween songs. You can mix and match them with traditional favorites. For fun, play a snippet of a song and let the guests see if they know it. The main thing to remember is enjoy the party no matter which songs you choose.I
