Ten Gadgets Seniors Shouldn't Be Without

These Gadgets Make You Grandparents More Then Just Comfortable

Nicholas Ward
Whether at home relaxing or out at the mall doing some shopping. Your grandparents are always in jeopardy when it comes to falling down, having a stroke, or just plain forgetting where they are. If you are concerned about them, then there are some gadgets you can get them to assist them even when you aren't there. These are the ten gadgets your grandparents shouldn't be without.

The first gadget seniors shouldn't be without: Life Alert.

Life alert is a gadget and a service, this gadget comes in the form of a small button which contains network hardware. This hardware will dial out for help if ever they are in jeopardy, and just need some assistance. Whether they fell down, or they are having a stroke, or even if they just forgot where they where. With one push of this button they will get the help they need right away.

The second gadget seniors should never be without: the E-Neighbor.

This gadget is sure to keep your grandparents safe from any kind of trouble in the home. Whether it be from intrusion, or even if they just left the refrigerator door open. This gadget monitors their daily activity for breaks in patterns, for instance if they where to pass out in the shower, the system would automatically call you and send out an E-mail. After the shower ran longer then normal you would recieve this call. This may seem bothersome, but your grandparents are worth it aren't they?

The third gadget seniors should never be without: the Reizen Super Ear.

The Reizen Super Ear is capable of amplifying sounds by up to 120 DB, making it so your grandparents can watch the TV without waking the dead, or their neighbors. You'll be glad you got this for them if they live with you, or evenif they happen to come by for a visit.

The fourth gadget seniors should never be without: Talking Rx Instructions.

This little gadget sets right underneath your prescription medication bottle and at the press of a button, it will record, then later repeat back to you all the RX instructions you received at the pharmacy. This is especially great for those with poor eye sight, or who just have problems reading the small print.

The fifth gadget seniors should never be without: the iPhone.

The iPhone has a nice little software application which will make things much easier on your grandparents when trying to call you. If they wish to dial you up, they simple say your name, and the iPhone will happily connect them to you right away. Of course you may have to set the phone up for them, but it's well worth it.

The sixth gadget seniors should never be without: the MedicTag.

The MedicTag works on the basic idea that everyone needs to have all their medical information immediately available. But no one wants to carry all that paper work with them, so what the MedicTag does is soak up all your medical information, and store it on a handy bracelet or key chain tag. Medics will then have access to it at the time of an emergency, rather then having to wait till you get to the hospital. This is an absolute must for anyone with any kind of medicinal allergy.

The seventh gadget seniors should never be without: the Prosepra PM110 Massage Chair.

This chair is so comfortable and relaxing, even the achiest of back is going to melt away in it. While they may not like it at first, once they see the effect it has on those achy bones, they will never want to be without it again.

The eighth gadget seniors should never be without: the Keys U See Keyboard.

This keyboard comes in multiple flavors, black on white, white on black, or black on yellow, and features large bold lettering, so your grandparents can easily see each and every key. Whether they just have a little bit of blurred vision, or just awful eyesight, they can pick the keyboard that makes things easy on them.

The ninth gadget seniors should never be without: the SmartParts - 15" Digital Photo Frame.

This nice little photo frame will keep your grandparents memories of you, and the rest of your family fresh in their mind. This giving them a sense of home and of purpose, as they look down on their family line. If your grandparents suffer from Alzheimer, it's been said that holding onto those memories is much easier with constant reminders around them.

The tenth gadget seniors should never be without: the LG DP889 Digital Picture Frame/DVD Player.

This little gadget will not only remind your grandparents what you look like, but who you are, with recorded voice impressions added to the pictures, or a looping DVD movie of that great time you all had out at the lake, you can be sure that the memories of some of the best times will remain fresh in their minds.

Closing,

While all of these gadgets for grandparents seem great, some of them are more important then others, and if I had to choose just one I would go with the life alert. Nothing is more important then their safety.

  • Some grandparents need constant attention, while others are fine with a few bits of tech.
  • The best gadgets for grandparents are ones that will make their lives easier.
  • Your grandparents will know that you care if you give them any of these great gifts.
Once upon a time older people where considered to be lost to technology, but in the coming years, I anticipate that they will become more involved in technology. In part due to the baby boomers reaching their later years.

The Just5 cell phone must be included in this list. This phone is very helpful for them because of its PERS features. In just a press of a button, seniors can rely to its automatic dialing and alarm functions to call for help. Plus, the phone has simple designs and basic functions for ease and convenience of use. I read about this phone at www.just5.com.
