Ten Gift Certificates for Mother's Day

Recalcitrantem
These are my ideas for gift certificates to give for Mother's Day. I've kept the ideas general so that they can be used in any area. Gift certificates don't have to be impersonal, if you put some thought and effort into the one that you're planning to get.

Spas/Beauty - Pampering is a popular but unfortunately infrequent activity for moms. Find a local place that has a nice atmosphere, and make sure the gift certificate is enough for Mom to get a massage or some other treatment that she'll enjoy, a manicure or pedicure maybe.
Bookstore - If Mom's a reader, a bookstore is a great place for her to have some coffee and read a bit. Books are expensive these days, too! Alternatively, some bookstores have a large movie or music section as well, so if she's not a big reader, don't rule this one out right away.
Travel Agency - If mom likes to travel, help her on her way. Maybe, if some siblings team up, you could even foot the bill for an entire trip. Some bus lines offer tours that start at very reasonable prices, as well.
Clothes/Shoes - Always a safe bet! Just make sure the gift certificate is good at a store she likes.
Restaurant - Pick a place that mom would never go to because it's too expensive, and get her a gift certificate to splurge on a fancy meal out.
Learn to Fly - If Mom's adventurous, most small airports will offer flying lessons. They're not very expensive, and chances are it's something she's never tried before.
Gasoline/Oil Change - Very utilitarian, but these are both things that everyone needs. If Mom's out and about a lot, you can bet that this will be appreciated.
State Parks Pass - I'm not sure about other states, but Maine offers a pass that allows free entrance to all State Parks for an entire year. If Mom's the outdoorsy type, or goes to the beach at any state parks, this is a great idea.
Online retailer - You can get gift certificates for Amazon.com or other online retailers, and then Mom can order something for herself. Great for tech-savvy moms!

Great ideas! The state park pass is so smart! The pass which would allow trips to Fort Knox in Prospect during re-enactments etc. would be well worth the price. alone.
I'd love to go to the place that has the rescued lion, tiger and more in Southern Maine. I've been thinking of having my mom go with us sometime this summer. A chance to do something together is as great as any material gift.
