Ten Great Christmas Gift Ideas for Your Dog

Rose Alexis
Are you looking to include the family dog for your annual holiday present shopping? If so, the following ten ideas will help you make Rover's day.

One: Purchase a personalized dog dish. You can have your pet's name put on a really nice set of food and water dishes. You an even add dog related pictures, such as dog bones, or paw prints.

Two: Make a Christmas stocking for your dog and hang it with the other family members' socks. Fill it with goodies, like toys, chew treats and dog bones.

Three: Wrap a box of gourmet dog treats for you pet this year. You can find these in so many different varieties. My favorite is little mailman shaped dog biscuits.

Four: Have a bed made up for your favorite pet canine. You can personalize it with a name if you like. Dog beds come in many shapes and sizes and range from practical to elaborate. The choice is all in how much you are willing to spend, or how creative you are willing to be.

Five: Have a dog t-shirt made to fit your pet that has the picture of the family on it. These are very cute, a great conversation piece, and they make for great photo opportunities. Or you can Purchase a doggie sweater for your dog if you live in chilly climates or have a small pet (more prone to chill). If a sweater is not your thing, you can find jackets and coats for dogs as well that range from cute and frilly to manly and cool.

Six: A house fit for a king. Purchase or create from a blueprint you purchase or make, a custom made dog house for your pet. You can make them traditional or grandiose. You can put in windows and decorate as well. The inside and the outside can be as fantastic or simple as you want it to be, and it not only provides a great place for your dog to rest, cool off, or get warm, but also gives a good conversation piece to your friends, family, and visitors. Have the kids draw artwork for the interior walls of the home that you frame in plastic and hang for Rover. It is an extra special treat that will delight the kids to be sure.

Seven: Have a placemat made for your doggie. You can purchase these pre-made or you can have one created. Put your dog's name, birth date, or picture on it. Or you can have the children in the family create a doggie placemat and then have it laminated. These are made of plastic or vinyl so they are easy to wipe up and they keep that area of the home clean where you serve your dog's meals.

Eight: Get a holiday feeding dish and placemat for you dog to include him or her in the family festivities.

Nine: Have an ID tag made that has your dog's name, address, and telephone number on it. This is a good idea for any pet, if you do not already have one. This is true even if your dog has a microchip for identification, as many people are still not aware that this is now a common practice with dogs. The tag will help your lost dog to find its way back home, should the unthinkable occur and he or she gets lost.

Ten: Purchase a fancy rhinestone or bejeweled collar or leash for your dog to show the world you appreciate this four-legged member of the family. After all, every family member deserves o be spoiled once in awhile, and what better way to do it than to fancy your pet up a bit for the holiday season.

These ten ideas will help you find a way to spoil your dog a bit this year during the Christmas season. If you have children, get them involved in the shopping or creating as well. It is sure to add that extra special element to your holiday joy.
