10. Delta King
The floating restaurant and hotel, it stands as one of the most romantic spots to take a loved one to dinner. The Delta King is an authentic riverboat that houses a 44 room hotel, the Pilothouse restaurant, the Delta Bar and Grill, the Delta King Theater, and even the Suspect's Mystery Dinner. This can easily be made into a very fun weekend for anyone.
9. Crest Theater
The Crest Theater has been a Sacramento mainstay for years going through three major renovations to become the theater we know and love today. The theater hosts many different shows and events. It hosts classic and recent films and even concerts. Community and political events are also held here. You'll be able to find something to do in at the Crest Theater no matter who you are.
8. Tour the Capital
With the architectural beauty and the legendary halls of legislature the California Capital building has a lot to offer. You'll be able to have a complete tour of all the California governors and can also view the legislature meetings themselves on Mondays and Thursdays. It could be very educational to learn about what's going on in the state we live in.
7. CrockerArt Museum
At 125 years old, the Crocker Art Museum stands as one of the most important museums in California. At the time of this writing it's currently going through a major renovation and is closed but is slated to reopen October 16th, 2010. I personally love the Crocker Art Museum simply because of the sheer beauty of it all. The art, the architecture, everything is fantastic here. It's also a great cultural idea for the children as well.
6. Railroad Museum
Three words describe the Old Sacramento Railroad Museum; fun, fun, and fun! A joy for children of all ages going here takes you back in time. The amount of information you take away from the Railroad Museum is through the ceiling and it's also a joy to watch the children's eyes light up with amazement. Definitely a family trip.
5. Wander Around Old Sacramento
When you're done with the Railroad Museum head on over to Old Sacramento and take in the sights and sounds of a bygone era. A whole area with modern businesses housed in an old feel architectural marvel. The roads are still cobblestone and there are horse-drawn carriages that carry people around. As a side note, check out Fanny Ann's restaurant and head to the second floor. The show and humor for newcomers is absolutely hilarious.
4. Sutter's Fort
An absolutely tremendous place to head to with the children. Amazingly fun place to spend a day learning of the "wild west" ways and customs. People dress in period garb and tell you exactly what it was like living on the fort and the history behind it is amazing. Fun for everyone but mainly fun for the children.
3. Sacramento Choral Society/Music Circus/Jazz Jubilee
This, unlike most of the other areas that I've talked about so far, is mainly for the adults. The music scene in Sacramento is tremendous with concerts year round from the Sacramento Choral Society, Music Circus in the summer and the Jazz Jubilee on Memorial Day weekend you'll always be able to find a concert or something to go to that will appease your artistic side. Make it a date night and you'll have a fantastic time with the special someone in your life.
2. FairytaleTown
Kids of all ages will love Fairytale Land, yes even the adults. Take your kids to the magical kingdom where all their fairytales can come true. Take then to see Humpty Dumpty, let them "walk the crooked mile," and every other fairytale you can think of is represented in this amazingly fun park right across the street from our number one thing to do in Sacramento!
1. Sacramento Zoo
The Sacramento Zoo is a blast and a fun place to go as well. It's easy to make a day out of Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Zoo. Boasting over 140 native, exotic, and endangered animal species on 14 acres of land it's immense and enjoyable. There are always events there to enjoy besides just the animals and a lot of ways you can get involved if you so choose.
Please note: many if not all of these "attractions" come with a cost involved but for the most part it's fairly nominal except for the Music Circus and The Delta King. There are other fun things to do in and around Sacramento so you should be able to find a lot of things to do to pass your time and make it enjoyable. Also all of these attractions have websites available for you to peruse and check out to map out your fun. If you're visiting, enjoy Sacramento as much as you can. If you're a native and you haven't been to these attractions, you really need to!
