Ten Great Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Bathroom

Spring cleaning your bathroom needn't be a huge undertaking. Even the least enthusiastic individual can enjoy a relatively easy annual bathroom spiff-up by following a few simple tips. Here are ten random tips for spring cleaning your bathroom that may help tackle what is often the dirtiest room in the house.

Plan a new décor theme to keep you motivated while spring cleaning your bathroom. If your bathroom needs an update or you simply want to reward the hard work of tackling the Herculean task of a total clean, consider changing the design. If the walls are damaged or stained, this is a good opportunity to re-paint. If the floors are grungy and torn, new tiles might be in order to put things like new again.

Offer a place for everything. When spring cleaning your bathroom, disorganization is often one of the most agitating and difficult tasks to conquer. Themed baskets or bins will help arrange things so that everything will have a proper landing spot. Simplicity is the key; choose easy to arrange containers so that bathroom items can be separated by type.

While spring cleaning your bathroom, get rid of leftovers. My sister's bathroom cabinet hosts a wide array of partial bottles of shampoo, lotion, and body wash. Having so many containers creates clutter. An easy solution is to pour all the partials into one big bottle and use the shampoos for washing the car or filling the hand soap pump and the lotions for a nice foot rub. Try to stick with similar scents, and don't forget to recycle all that plastic!

Try benzoyl peroxide 10 on vinyl stains while spring cleaning your bathroom. This is a great fix for stains on vinyl tile, plastic vanities, or even vinyl toilet seats. Simply apply the acne cream and allow to dry. In about 24 hours, scrape it off and reapply. For quicker use, put a lamp above the spot after applying the cream. Be sure to color test the application prior to cleaning a large spot. Remember, stains do take a while to conquer, so be prepared to make several attempts before the stain is completely gone.

Don't forget to wash the shower curtain during your bathroom cleaning. Most shower curtains can hold up to being washed in the washing machine on a warm cycle as long as you use fluffy towels and don't put them in a dryer afterward. For tough lime stains, use a bit of CLR or a cup full of vinegar during the load.

Pour a little drain opener down the shower drain to tackle hair clogs before they completely block or slow the drain. Be sure no cleaner residue is in the drain prior to using the cleaner, and follow up with the proper amount of water afterward. Be sure to purchase a good drain catch to prevent future hair clogs.

Get rid of anything unnecessary while spring cleaning your bathroom. Many bathrooms become dust magnets due to an excess of décor and accessories. A simpler style is often better, as cluttered bathrooms can often look dirtier than they are. Stacks of books and magazines as well as pots of silk flowers may seem homey, but in a bathroom they only contribute to making an already small room look even tinier.

Try cleaning wipes to mop. If you want a nice fresh smell without the hassle of dragging a mop and bucket into a tiny room, consider using bleach cleaning wipes. Fixtures, sinks, floors, and walls will come even much cleaner when you get close to the grime and toss the wipes as you go.

Don't forget your hairbrushes and combs! Fill a sink with hot water and a teaspoon of dish detergent. Allow all hairbrushes, combs, picks, and barrettes to soak in the solution for twenty minutes. Use the brushes against one another to work the lather through the bristles. Thrash the combs in the water to agitate them clean. Use a comb to pull all the stray hairs out of the hairbrushes.

Go through the medicine cabinet and get rid of expired things. There is no reason to keep cough syrup that went bad years ago. Take the time to get rid of expired bandages, medications, herbal supplements, vitamins, and anything else you keep in the bathroom cabinet. Bandages and medications that are expired can be ineffective or unsafe. In addition, throw away any with torn packaging or any that may have gotten wet.

When spring cleaning your bathroom, keep in mind that though the bathroom is a tiny room, it is one that requires the most attention. The less you have to bother with the easier routine cleaning can be. Spring cleaning is an opportunity to make your home sparkle and to catch up with and tackle larger projects. To keep spring cleaning hassle free, consider four annual seasonal cleanings instead.
