Ten Holiday Cocktails & Recipes for You to Enjoy

Jeanne Marie Kerns
The holidays are here again, and with holidays come holiday cocktails that everyone can enjoy, however many people do not have the slightest clue on how to make them. Keep reading and by the end of this article, you will know how to make ten excellent holiday drinks that you, your friends, and your family can enjoy for a long time to come.

1. Cranpagne - This is by far one of my favorite holiday drinks out of them all. It's is also one of the simple ones as well. First dip a martini glass in some sugar, then fill the glass with half cranberry apple juice, and half champagne, and you have the Cranpagne. It's simple, it's easy and it is absolutely delicious, not to mention perfect color for the holiday season. You just cannot go wrong.

2. Egg Nog Soda - For all of you who absolutely love egg nog this drink is for you, and me of course. Get a nice size sturdy glass. Put one scoop of vanilla ice cream inside the glass. Pour half of glass of egg nog, then even amounts of cream soda and whiskey (Jack Daniels) to fill the rest of the glass. Stir lightly and enjoy !

3. Red Raspberry Festival - This is definitely a holiday drink that most people will enjoy, especially if you like raspberries and champagne. First take a champagne glass and filled it with one or two scoops of raspberry sherbet. Then add a few fresh raspberries on top of that, and then add the chilled champagne. Stick a small skewer with raspberries on it inside of the drink and drink up.

4. Candy Cane All the Way - This one you have to be careful with, you can drink too many of these without realizing it. In a small glass add 2 ice cubes, 1/4 ounce of peppermint Schnapps, 1/4 ounce of cinnamon Schnapps, and some Sprite or 7-up (whichever you prefer), add a couple of peppermint sticks or peppermint candy canes, and feel the holidays coming.

5. Kahlua with a Touch of Hot Cocoa - This one a friend of mine made for me one Christmas and I have loved it ever since. In a heat resistant cup such as a coffee cup, add 3/4 of Kahlua, 3/4 hot cocoa and 3/4 chocolate liquer. Once all three ingredients are added, shave some dark chocolate on top and enjoy.

6. Lemon Lime Snow Fizz - This drink will also knock you off your feet if your not careful how much you drink. In a tall glass, add 2 scoops of lemon lime sherbet, shaved lemon and lime coating, 1/2 cup of 7-Up or Sprite, 1/2 cup of Jose Cuervo Tequila, for garnish add one slice of lemon and lime to rim. Stir gently and sip slowly. Do not guzzle this drink down or you will be on the floor quickly.

7. Mistletoe - I myself can only drink a couple of these without starting to feel a little light headed. In a very tall glass filled to the rim with ice cubes, add 1/4 of each liquor. Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, Jose Quervo Tequila and 1/2 cup of either Sprite (it has more sugar), or a 1/2 cup of Cranberry Apple Juice, all depends on if you want a red or a green drink. I myself prefer the cranberry apple since it gives it a little kick and cuts the taste of the liquor a little. Stir well, and drink slowly.

8. Hot Buttered Rum - This one has been a drink in my family for many years. Even when I was not allowed to drink, my mother always let me have a sip of this traditional holiday cocktail. Some people do it one way, I myself have found that if you stick to the basics, the drink comes out much better. In a large coffee mug combine dark rum of choice, 1 spoonful of brown sugar and one spoonful of butter. Add hot milk and stir well. Add shavings of dark or milk chocolate to the top with maybe some whipped marshmellow and enjoy this amazingly comfort cocktail.

9. Jeannie's Christmas Tea - Yes this is my idea of Christmas tea in my family. Every year at Christmas dinner, all the adults get a glass of this and toast to the new year that is coming. It's simple, however it is one delicious drink, and if you drink more than one, you will miss out on the rest of the holiday night. Get a 8 oz. cold glass, 1/2 cup of Jack Daniels Whiskey, 1/2 cup tea bag ice tea made with a lot of sugar, and 10 ice cubes per glass. Combine all ingredients in blender until you have a slushie mixture. Pour into glass, add a sprig of mint and drink up!

10. Holiday Fun Fruity Punch - Everyone will drink up when they see this in the middle you table this year. In a large bowl, combine one pint of lemon lime sherbet, one pint of raspberry sherbet, and one pint of mixed fruit sherbet. Add one, two liter bottle of Sprite or 7-Up, then half a bottle of Smirnoff. To add a more fruity taste, add orange wedges inside the mixture with maraschino cherries. Stir and enjoy.

Happy Holidays everyone. Remember to drink responsibly, and to stay sober while driving.
