It's something that your family will probably remember much more than the ceremony and an event your friends will talk about for times to come. Give them
more to gabber about with these ideas on how to make your wedding reception stand out from the ordinary.
1. Record Your Event
For $7 to $10 each, you can place one or two one-time-use cameras on each table to give guests the opportunity to record their favorite moments and
surroundings. At the end of the event you can place a decorated basket by the door for guests to drop the cameras in on their way home. Once developed create
online photo albums using many available sites such as photobucket.com to customize slide shows for you guests and email them creating a book of memories not
soon to be forgotten.
Also, for a few dollars more you can invest in one-time-use video recorders to capture video of your special day.
2. Knowing Their Place
Let guest's know where to go and enchant them with a variety of place card holders. Generally inexpensive (some start at .99 cents on theknot.com) yet classy
enough to enhance any center peice you've chosen. Take the time to look around as there are hundreds of designs and materials place holders can come in. Find
one that matches your wedding decor or if they just tickle your fancy. If your choosing metal place holders, consider purchasing an engraving pen (between
$20 and $30) and engraving the place holders with the guests name personally, perhaps, space providing, even including a short heartfelt message or quote.
3. Table for Two?
Instead of having seperate tables for a set of 5 to 7 guests, consider having your tables in two long lines. Add some inexpensive lighting features at
intervals down the tables as opposed to centerpeices, and watch your guests faces light up at the class this setup can present. Also a good idea if you have
a large number of guests and having seperate tables seems like it will take up to much space or even worse, that you wont be able to have a good view of
those in attendance. This paired with the engraved name holder idea would be very elegant.
4. Sweet Tooth
This is something all your guests can enjoy that will make them feel your especially glad they came. You and your groom to be in the comfort of your kitchen
together could mold your own chocolate. It is very inexpensive and very easy to make, and you can make your own kinds as well, solid or filled. Then place it
on the tables for your guests to enjoy. You could make it your centerpiece or you could create individual boxes of two or three pieces per guest and attach a
card describing just what is inside; perhaps orange creme filling, maybe a solid white/chocolate marble, or perhaps a few drops of your favorite liquer!
5. Penny for your thoughts?
Another alternative to candy or mints at the table; get together with your SO and throw together some fortune cookies in the kitchen. Scour books and the
internet for quotes for your guests, or inserts comemorating the wedding (with no lucky numbers on the back!). For a bit of added elegance, have them served
with your desert; cake or ice creams, gelatos, tiramisu etc. Fortune cookies are so simplistic they could garnish just about any sweet treat.
6. Don't Eat on These!
Pictures say a thousand words. But can they carry your meal? Blow up pictures of you and your soon-to-be and weave them together basket like ribbon the color
of your choice, then you can lay them on the tables for the guests to enjoy. Also, for something untraditional, consider painting plain picture frames that
you can get from your local crafts store. Then put a photo of you and your groom inside, or leave it empty for them to fill with their own memories.
7. Stop and smell the roses
Flowers are going to be all over the place in any wedding, so why not stick them where guests are'nt expecting to look. For example try hanging flower
'chandeliers' above the tables or even use them in the cooking. You can buy and incorporate many beautiful small types of edible flowers that would look
stunning floating in a delicious soup or the perfect accent in your cake or ice creams, or you could even add them to float at the top of the champagne
during your toast.
8. Petit Fours
Instead of a wedding cake, try petit fours. The small miniature cakes are very beautiful and classy and two per person would probably be the same as eating
a piece of cake but this individual approach also works if you want to try something different but elegant. They come in many the same flavors that cake can
and the icing is just as sweet. Also, with petit fours you have the opportunity to incorporate as many color schemes as you want and try many different
styles and designs of icing you like as well.
9. A Formal Affair
As is customary at most weddings, the bride will show up to the reception in her gown and proceed to have a father daughter dance. Instead, trade your gown
for a cocktail dress and wow your guests with a very fancy formal dance. Perhaps , if the partner is able, enroll in a week long class to learn a specific
dance that you could entertain your guests with. You could try anything youd like from Waltzing and Salsa to Bellydancing. Also take into consideration if it
is an outdoor wedding or an indoor wedding and use your first dance or two to help set the mood for the rest of a fun filled evening.
10. Sing for your Supper
To help get things started at your reception, make it known that you and your newly wed will only kiss eachother when a table gets up together during dinner
and sings the verse of a song with the word 'love'in it. This is a great way to get everyone talking and thinking happy things and who knows, perhaps you'll
enlist a wedding singer before its over! Another idea would be to make a short phrase or sentence with meaning and whenever a guest cathces you kissing they
have to shout it out loud, wherein the other guests would repeat it!
Hopefully these ideas have jumpstarted your thinking about what kind of classy, elegant fun you can have at your reception. Your getting married and it's a
time for memories and laughter, and it's ideas like these that help your guests remember the memory for years to come.
