In the fashion world of couture, there are certain requirements that every woman must have in her wardrobe, But not every woman is a Parisian socialite with access to Swiss bank accounts and a large inheritance. Here's a guide of the ten essential items every girl must have in her wardrobe, along with some extra tips for "looking" expensive without actually "being" expensive.

10) A black cocktail dress. You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again. It's that short-to-medium length plain and simple black dress that you can mix and match with various accessories and coats, looking different every time, but it's always the same dress. You can wear it to anything from a funeral to New Year's party. The beauty of it is that it never goes out of style, and it never lets you down

9) A string of pearls. They don't have to be real, and there are some really great knock-off pearl necklaces at places such as Francesca's Boutique, Forever 21, and Express. Remember, pearls are small in size, and never perfect in shape. Pick a plain strand that you can wear with any dress or blouse, and you'll instantly up the classy factor of your next outfit.

8) Big black sunglasses. These are perfect for a day of shopping, a beach party, or an afternoon stroll. They go with everything, and are perfect for any occassion. Even if you end up splurging on a pair of pricey ones, if every time you wear them you refund yourself fifty cents, you'll have earned back the original purchase price in a heartbeat.

7) That pair of heels that goes with everything. Pick a subtle color, such as a silver or dark grey, that consists mainly of rhinestones or faux diamonds. The less strappy the heels are the better, because then you can really match your heels to everything. These shoes can be your backup pair when you can't find otehr pairs of shoes to match your outfits.

6) Diamond stud earrings. They can be real, or there are a lot of really great cubic zirconium ones out there that look just like the real thing, if not better. I have a pair that people always mistake for the real thing. It's like, why even bother getting real ones at this point? Diamonds look great with anything and everything, and are a staple in jewelry box.

5) A faux-fur shoulder wrap. They have these at Forever 21 and vintage stores. Sometimes you can even get the real thing, but I'm not an avid promoter of fur-wearing. It's the perfect accessory to drape over your shoulders but not hide your pretty dress that you'd like to show off. And they would go great with your pearl necklace!

4) A thick belt. This dresses up any blouse or shirt, and can be work high on the waist to give you a slimmer effect, or low to decorate your pant/skirt line. Contrasting colors are very hot right now, so if you wear a black blouse, make sure to wear a red belt with it.

3) A basic polo. This looks great with jeans or flowy skirts. You can turn the collar up for that preppy ensemble, and pair with some aviator shades for an ultra-cool Miami Vice look.

2) Denim jacket. A must have staple. Goes with everything, especially those nice summer dresses.

1) A pair of leather sandals, adorned with pretty beads, jewels or designs. Looks hot with any dress or skirt, and is more comfortable to wear and walk around in.

  • A black cocktail dress never goes out of fashion. Your mother had one, as did your grandmother, as should you.
  • A simple string of pearls will increase the elegance factor of any outfit.
  • Find a pair of heels that go with everything-preferably silver or dark gray. The less strappy the better.
So many people think my cubic zirconium earrings are real that I wouldn't want to waste money on real diamonds at this point.
