Ten of the Most Ridiculous Gaming Products Ever Released

These Ridiculous Video Game Products Are Sure to Make You Laugh

Nicholas Ward
When it comes to gaming, we all know there are some products that just take the cake, and some products that nose dive and hit the floor. Some of these ideas may have been inventive, and some of them may have been well marketed even though they where obvious flops. Marketing isn't the only determining factor when it comes to what gaming products are ridiculous, and which ones are great, so lets get right into it then. The list that will make you laugh, Ten Most Ridiculous Gaming Products.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 1, The Nintendo Power Glove.

Nintendos power glove was a glove which you could wear on your arm, released for the Nintendo Entertainment system (also known as the Famicom). This glove would let you play your games by moving your fingers, and waving your hands, or pushing the buttons on the controller attached to the side of the glove.

Unfortunately the glove never really worked quite right, and the Power Glove was well before it's time. Those who paid for this glove found themselves getting so frustrated at Marios new break dance every time they tried to play.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 2, The Virtual Boy.

While this Idea was great, the implementation was bad. The virtual boy never really got off the ground, people where all hyped up during this era about 3D glasses for computers, and Duke Nukem. Something about a red lined semi 3D vectrix clone just didn't hit the spot though. Nintendo spent a lot of time and effort marketing this product that was destined to be the ultimate fail.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 3, The Laser Scope.

This product was a helmet which let you play your favorite shooting games on the NESm using a scope sight over your eye rather then holding a gun. To fire all you had to do was say the word, unfortunately this helmet was prone to back ground noise, and interference. Not to mention the looks you get while playing duck hunt and saying "die **** die" .

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 4, The Nintendo GameBoy.

I know I'm going to get flogged for this one, but let's be realistic. Was the original gameboy all it was hyped up to be? Obviously Segas game gear or even the NeoGeo pocket where far superior to the GameBoy, after all neither of these systems ever gave me a migraine just trying to see my player. The design of the game boy using that 1 color monochrome LED display was the worst.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 5, The NES Lock Out.

Are you kidding me what is the point in locking people out of playing your NES!? wasn't the point of buying the NES in the first place to be able to play it? What where they thinking with this product...

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 6, The Power Pad.

This unit was more widely known in japan as the "Family Trainer". The Power Pad was designed with the intention of getting us fit, apparently this has been Nintendos goal since the dawn of their insurgence into the gaming market, and they still persist that we should get off our butts to play. This design was simply the worst, no games supported it. Even if the games did support it, how is one suppose to get into yoga with an 8 bit sensei on the screen?

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 7, The Teleplay Modem.

This modem was possibly the first attempt at interconnecting consoles, but the attempt couldn't have been more useless. At 300bps it wasn't even capable of sending data fast enough to draw a Nintendo screen, and would have run your phone bill up considerably. If you wanted to play with your brother on the other side of the country you would have to dial him long distance. This is by far one of the biggest fails of the industry, and yet it led to the later creation of the MMORPG FFXI.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 8, The Sattelaview.

This product designed in japan for the SNES or "Super Famicom System" was one of the biggest fails ever. The Idea behind this product was that you could use it much like a satellite TV program. Simply pick channels to "play?" While the idea is sound, the design was a fail. The Sattelaview remained fairly hot in japan for some time, but never got off the ground in the US. I guess people didn't want to pay every month just for some lousy games with terrible graphics, who knew?

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 9, AlphaGrip AG-5 PC Gaming and Text Entry Controller.

You have got to be kidding me, this Alpha Grip pad was intended to make things easier, but how do you think the designer thought to make it easier? By adding 46 buttons, that's how. This controller is literally covered with so many buttons, I'm not sure I could hold it without making a typo. Just imagine all the keys of a keyboard all over your Xbox controller and you have this epic fail of a gaming product.

Most Ridiculous Gaming Product Number 10, R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy)

The R.O.B. was released with the early generation NES. The idea for it was really just a marketing ploy. I mean who doesn't want an E.T. looking gaming buddy?

Unfortunately this robot never really did anything except distract the players from the game. people got so caught up watching this little bot dance they would forget to jump. Once people found out they could press the buttons directly on the robot, it was all over for having it connected to gaming in any way. This wasn't before Nintendo had gotten their hooks into gaming though.

No mention of the sega fishing pole for the dreamcast? This is a rather nintendo related list.

But perhaps you can delete my comment like you did on your other article and no one will know the difference...
