Ten Movies Every Family Should See

Amy Gayle
Many times, families are too busy to sit down for a minute and spend time together. Other times, the kids are far to entranced by their various game systems. I challenge every family to a "Movie Night" each week. When the movie is over, you can ask them questions about the movie and what they thought of it. Like, "What was the moral of that story?" or "What can we learn from that movie?" or even "What was your favorite part?"

Let's bring families back together and enjoy each other's company! Run to the video store and start by renting one of these.

-If you have young girls that are junior high age or older, the "Anne of Green Gables" movies are wonderful! These were my favorite movies when I was that age, and I used to watch them a little bit everyday after school! They are set back a little, so that teaches the kids a little bit of history, too!

-"The Wizard of Oz" is a movie that every child should see! With all the singing and dancing and flying monkeys, what kid wouldn't love this movie?

-"Annie" is a must see! The story involves what every kid wishes would happen to them...to have a rich Daddy Warbucks! It also teaches them to value the important things in life...Family!

-The original 1971 "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is one of those films that is completely heartwarming and teaches kids the true meaning of kindness and compassion.

-"Beauty and the Beast" teaches kids that no matter what the exterior of a person looks like, their hearts might be one of love and generosity. Teaching kids to be compassionate, no matter how that person may appear.

-If your kids are in high school, I'd recommend them watching "Schindler's List". It is an incredible true story of the Holocaust that every high schooler should see. Please make sure you watch this with your high schooler, because there will be many sights that might provoke discussion throughout the movie.

-The original "Yours, Mine, and Ours" is a delight to watch! Lucille Ball is hilarious in this movie! It teaches children that they can overcome some of the hardest problems in life by relying on family. In a time of so many blended families, this film is a fun one to watch.

-"Toy Story" is probably one of the cutest Pixar movies I have seen to date. I cannot tell you what a darling movie that is for any family. Kids of all ages will enjoy it!

-Although "My Girl" has some very deep issues in it, I think it's a good one for kids to see. They realize a little that life is fragile and we need to cherish each moment.

-Need a different twist on a Cinderella story? Check out "Ever After". It is funny and warm and teaches to love and respect others!

There are tons of other family films that are totally worth renting. I just wanted to give you a jump start to a new family tradition in your home! Take time with your family today. Those are the things that you take with you when you leave this Earth...the memories! You can never get them back.
