But that isn't to say that traditional Christmas specials like "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" aren't terrific ways to gather together as a family and enjoy the sentiments of the season. So in this mindset why don't we have a look at a wide variety of holiday films that you can enjoy on your own or with a large group?
The reason for this is simple. The point of Christmas is to feel connected whether it is with your blood family, your friends or just with the spirit of the world around you. Here are ten great holiday themed films to enjoy this December.
The Abominable Snowman/Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer-Sure, the stop motion photographic technology may seem so last millennium to modern viewers but in that lies the charm of this terrific duo. These Christmas specials are perfects for audiences of all ages and are the best way to kick off a warm hearted holiday season.
Christmas Vacation-Who can deny the hapless Clark Griswold in his endless attempts to create the perfect family holiday? The movie is stolen, of course, by cousin Eddie (as portrayed by Randy Quaid). It may not be your cousin but every family has an Eddie.
Die Hard-You may think this is an odd choice but "Die Hard" takes place on Christmas Eve and it counts as the greatest action film ever made. The perfect film to watch when you want to watch Christmas ornaments explode in over the top fireballs.
Love Actually-There is no greater time than the holidays for a delicious romantic comedy.
Bridget Jones Diary-Another fun holiday romantic comedy for anyone who worries about how many pounds they put on during the holidays. Renee Zelweger does a terrific british accent in this one.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas-This one needs no comment. The best holiday entertainment event of the season.
A Christmas Story-Even if you never wished for a BB gun for Christmas this film will return you to the wonderment of the holiday season.
It's a Wonderful Life-Do you think of this movie every time you hear a bell ring? If you don't get that you had better watch this Christmas classic.
Gremlins-All of the mayhem caused by these naughty Gremlins takes place during Christmas and this film always makes me feel seasonally festive.
The Nightmare Before Christmas-If Christmas makes you long for Halloween there is a Tim Burton film just for you! This movie tells the story of when Halloween characters kidnap Santa and it is perfect for those moments when you want the antidote to sappy sentimentality.

Post a CommentLoved your picks, I've forgotten all about Gremlins. That'll be a good one to see again, for nostalgia purposes, anyways.
