Ten Movies that Your Toddler Will Love

As a mother of a two year old I long for some quiet moments in my day. Although too much television is not a good thing for toddlers a little can go a long way in helping the sanity of both new and veteran mothers. Because of this I have decided to compile a list of the top ten movies that work for my own daughter who is about two and a half. These are all feature length cartoons and some of them are even fun for us to watch together.

1. Cinderella
I was so surprised when I put Cinderella in for my daughter because she absolutely loved it and started to ask to watch it everyday. I think this is because although it is one of Disney's first animated stories and less flashy than new cartoons the story is simple and to the point which appeals to two year olds. It is also about a princess and my daughter has recently become completely fascinated by them.

2. Snow White

Another surprise and another Disney movie I know, but she loves it. The animation is less detailed and it doesn't bombard you with action like many current movies, but again the story is simple and to the point and so this is another favorite in our home.

3. Coroline

This is one of the top ten movies for toddlers that I enjoy also. It is stop motion 3-D so it has an original look and is adapted from the very popular book by the same name. Some may worry that it is too scary so take note of that if you are worried, but I did not have that experience with my daughter, she really enjoyed it and so did I.

4. Mulan

I know I should have maybe named this Disney's top ten for toddlers, but they are a leader in quality animation for kids so many of these will be Disney. I loved this movie growing up and I was excited to share it with my daughter. There are moments that still make me laugh out loud and others that make me smile. It is also a different spin on the traditional princess story because the young girl becomes the hero. Mulan also has a couple of great songs that will have you singing along.

5. Dora's World Adventure

I don't enjoy Dora, but my daughter's feelings are the complete opposite so I had to include one of her personal favorites. Dora's World Adventure is one of her favorites and mine too because they visit many different countries and learn interesting facts about each one and how to say some simple phrases in that countries language.

6. The Princess and The Frog

This is the first movie my daughter saw at the movie theatre and she absolutely loved it. She has asked to go back and see it again and I can't wait until it is out on DVD so we can add it to our home DVD library. The story's characters are funny and there are those great Disney songs that we all love.

7. Howl's Moving Castle

This movie is very different and if you are not familiar with Japanese anime this would be a good introduction. I was very surprised that my daughter liked this because the story is anything but simple, but the artwork is amazing and it is definitely worth a try.

8. The Care Bears Movie 1985

I was born in 1981 and I remember loving the Care Bears and this movie so I was so excited when it came on one of our movie channels that I recorded it for my daughter. To my surprise she loved it and it felt really good to be able to share something with her that I liked as a child.

9. Horton Hears A Who

This is a great movie with a great message and it is always nice when there is also a book because it will make both watching the movie and reading the book more interactive for you and your toddler.

10. Tinkerbell

The character of Tinkerbell is loved by most little girls so of course they would love the movie. I did not like this movie at all the first time, but it has grown on me and my daughter has always loved it.

Each of these movies is a favorite in my household and I hope that you and your children enjoy them also. There are themes and lessons that even my two year old pics up which amaze me because you never realize how much a toddler learns from every experience that he or she has, so it is important to pick the right ones.
