Ten NYC-Themed Gifts for the Holidays

Candice Cain

The thought of New York City during the holidays elicits visions of the tree in Rockefeller Center with ice skaters twirling in front of it, the Empire State Building lit up in green and red, scenes from the famous Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, horse-and-sleigh rides through Central Park and many other iconic scenes. A NYC-themed gift would be sure to delight anyone in the world. Here are the top ten suggestions of NYC-themed gifts.

I Love NY Snowglobe
Everyone loves snowglobes. They remind you of places that you have been, or reignite the sparks of desire for the places that you want to go. A NYC snowglobe places the entire famous skyline in a little glass ball. Shake it and it "snows" in the famous city in the world. The iconic "I (heart) NY" logo is the perfect addition to the base of the snowglobe. Snowglobes such as these can be purchased pretty much in any souvenir store in Manhattan, as well as online.

F.A.O. Schwarz Teddy Bear
Thanks to the 1988 Tom Hanks movie "Big," F.A.O. Schwarz became the toy store associated with New York City. A wonderful gift for children and adults alike is the F.A.O. Schwarz classic teddy bear, who goes by the name of "Henry." Henry comes in a variety of sizes and is good for both snuggling or just placing him on a shelf to watch over a room. Henry can only be purchased through F.A.O. Schwarz, either online or at the store.

New York Cheesecake
One of the foods that New York is famous for is cheesecake, and there is a good reason why. It is a style and flavor of cheesecake that is often imitated around the world, but no one ever really gets the recipe right. There are a lot of companies that sell New York cheesecake for delivery online, or just prepared for transport where ever you might take it. Junior's is one of the most famous cheesecakes from New York City, and offers cheesecakes for pick-up as well as shipment.

New York Pizza
As a person that has tried to transport world-famous New York pizza on a plane, it is decidedly difficult. However, there are some pizzerias in New York that ship pizza anywhere in the world. While it's a bit more pricey than buying a pizza in New York city while you're visiting, you can have it shipped pretty much anywhere in the world for under $40. Talk about a taste of New York!

Sardi's Prints
For the theatre buff in your life, look to the most famous restaurant for theatre people: Sardi's. This restaurant is famous for placing charicatures of famous diners on their walls. However, they also offer beautiful prints of Broadway street scenes in their gift shop. A bit of a lavish gift, these prints go for $95 each.

Silver Tiffany Bracelet
Made famous by the 1961 film "Breakfast at Tiffany's," Tiffany & Co. is one of the most famous jewelry stores in the world. The iconic blue box is sure to make any woman smile even before she sees what is inside. The silver bracelet with the silver dangling heart is the most commonly known piece of Tiffany jewelry.

NYPD Patrol Car Set
As the wife of a cop, I get a lot of requests for items that I could give to my friends' sons. Even though my husband isn't NYPD, I know that the NYPD Patrol Car toy is a great gift-- And it sells for about $10.

Radio City Rockette Doll
Each year, Radio City Music Hall releases a Rockette doll fashioned after a number performed by the Rockettes in that year's Christmas Spectacular. Even though it's about $30, it will delight any little girl-- particularly those that aspire to be a Rockette or just enjoyed watching the show. These dolls can only be purchased through Radio City Music Hall, either at the theatre or online.

Statue of Liberty Replica
If you want a unique gift, look no further than a Statue of Liberty replica statue. It is a nice conversation piece for any table or shelf, and reminds people how important New York City was to the foundation of our country. Plus, this year marks the 125th anniversary that the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor! No visit to new York is complete without visiting Lady Liberty. Why not bring her home with you?

David Letterman Show Mug
No late night television fan's collection is complete without a David Letterman Show mug. The king of late night and his guests sip out of similar mugs during the show. Watch a taping of the show and pick up a mug for $15 in the CBS store, or just order one online.
