Ten Places in the World that I Would like to Visit

John Smither
I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to many countries around the world, there are many more I would like to cross off my list of places to go to. So here's a list of as yet places I haven't visited.

1- Machu Picchu, Peru. One place I would just love to visit, it looks so wonderful. I know it would be quite a trek to actually get to see this wonder, but the expectation in getting there on foot and not just turning up in a tour bus is part of the excitement of going to this place.

2- New Zealand. The scenery in this country looks great; it is so far from everywhere else, (except Australia, Australia is not on my list, there are too many things trying to kill you). The mixture of a warm climate, and not too many miles away you have the frozen temperatures within the mountains. Ever since the Lord of the rings I have put this on my must go list.

3- Niagara Falls. Not been there yet, would love to see this place. I have seen many smaller waterfalls; this one just looks so awesome in size and power.

4- New York City. Again a place I have not been to yet (why not? I hear you ask!). My wife used to live there, twice we were due to go visit the city but were unable to go, and I will get there one day.

5- Yellowstone Park. Another place that intrigues me, old faithful amongst others.

6- Eiffel Tower, Paris, France. Just to see the views across the city would be wonderful. I visited Paris many years ago, I had sleepless overnight journey on a train from the south of the country. That was followed by a few hours visiting Paris, but I was very tired from the lack of sleep. Also my wife would love to visit for the first time with me. How could I refuse?

7- Pyramids and Sphinx, Egypt. I feel I have no real urge to travel to Africa, but this corner of the Dark Continent I would definitely make an exception for. The history and many stories from these ancient wonders intrigue me to want to visit this corner of Africa.

8- Taj Mahal, Agra, India. A truly wonderful building, built between 1632 and 1653 the 5th Mughal Emporer of India Shah Jahan had this fine building constructed as a symbol of his love for his late third wife.

9- The West End of London, England. My wife feels I haven't really lived unless I see a 'live' show in London's theater district. Since we have been together I have seen a number of live shows, most of them very good or better. Unfortunately I have also seen at least one very bad one, still looking forward to the London visit though.

10- Also for my wife, take her to visit Rome, Italy. As well as the colosseum and St Peter's square. A trip to Pompeii and a drive along the Amalfi coast. That would be a terrific revisit for me. I have toured around this part of Italy a few years ago, all that Rome has to offer and then along to Pompeii followed by a hair raising drive along the very narrow roads of the Amalfi coast, what a great revisit.

I had often felt that I had a book inside me ready to be written (many of us have I know), well it has been but now I need to get it published. Until recently I never knew I could write poems, that is my nex...  View profile

The views from the Eiffel Tower are quite stunning, so hopefully you'll get to go and see it for yourself. Your wife is right about the West End. I'm not a big fan of London, but it is always nice to visit the West End when I get a chance and take in a live show.

Now that's just uncanny, how similar your list is to mine! I've been to Yellowstone a couple of times--you definitely must visit there, and that won't cost you as much as some of these other picks...
