Ten Reasonable Resolutions with a Healthy Goal

Lori Lane
New year resolutions mark a tradition whereas people tend to make a list to evaluate the one thing they can live without for an entire year. The human brain can be very tricky as seen with resolution block. Why boggle the brain? Here's a reasonable healthy resolution list to consider in beginning a very good year.

Give up chocolate? No, it's not a typo. Dark chocolate has some healthy aspects to it but a person can't live by chocolate alone. Eat a box of chocolates each day for an entire week and watch the waist magically appear. Stop eating chocolate and the waist magically disappears. Giving up chocolate as a resolution does not mark the end of the world. Just the end of potential weight gain and a few pimples.

Give up candy. Candy is candy. Ask your dentist how they feel about candy and prepare for a "stay away from candy" lecture. Candy is also expensive to purchase. Save the wallet and the teeth by giving up candy.

Give up drinking. Just make sure no one is around you when the craving arises. But like time, the cravings come to pass. The world tends to appear less blurred when a person's body starts accepting the lack of outside buzz.

Give up cigarettes. So, Chantix made you dream of Armageddon and it scared the Hades out of you. First glance of stress and all quitting smoking bets are off? You can't keep everyone happy babe. No one but yourself. That stress will always be there. Love thy lungs and give them another shot - quit. Don't quit and watch someone else give the lungs a shot (of oxygen).

Give up complaining. It seems unlikely that the entire world will follow suit but that shouldn't matter. Giving up complaint actually can help the human heart. Less stress is best, right? Imagine what happens when the stress is not self-induced.

Give up overheated debate. Life does not have to be in constant debate. It doesn't matter if you're from Jersey, New York, California, North Carolina, or overseas. Stop debating every issue that falls in view. Start seeing a reason to agree rather than a reason not to agree. All in all, debate is healthy, but when a person is such a die hard that they instantly call another person just to argue about the topic the debate is no longer healthy. Now is a good time to stop that pattern.

Give up soda. We all love those bubbles of carbonation and tasty syrups that work in combination. So, why give up a drink that could literally strip paint off of a car? That is an answer in its own. Weight gain also is known to occur with heavy soda drinkers. Much good can come out of giving up soda. Try it as a resolution and see how you feel by the year's end.

Give up sugar. Sugar is in most foods and beverages making it almost impossible to quit. But that's alright. Simply give up putting sugar in cereal, sugar in tea, or other moments when a person could do without sugar.

Give up giving up. It's easy to give up while tossing your hands in the air and scratching the head. But why give up? If Rome wasn't built in one day it very well could have been completed in 25 hours. Go the long haul in life and stop saying to yourself "I give up."

Give up judging the little things. This is a good one for those who have a mad house of opinions. No one likes to be judged. Give that up. It doesn't match your shoes. Let others be human by allowing their little mistakes to be accepted.

Giving up any of these ten suggestions can only make you a better person. And wouldn't that be the perfect goal? To better life through resolution? Make up your mind. The new year is full speed ahead and your goals should be as well.

Happy New Year!
