Ten Reasons Why the CW is Must See TV in 2010-11

Rolando Cruz
Blame it on Peter Pan syndrome and the fact that I refuse to grow up, but I've always been partial to shows on the CW, most of which seemly target a younger TV audience. Still, since my better half willingly shares my fascination for the network's programming, it's only natural that we would eagerly await the start of a new fall season, after all, there are just so much re-runs we can watch. Here then are my top ten reasons to be excited about the CW's Fall Premiere week.

Smallville: Time for Superman to Fly!

The moment has been 10 seasons in the making, and if you are like me, you have sat through 9 seasons of Smallville without seeing the man of steel take flight. It's time to change that. Since this is the show's final season, it is time for Clark Kent (Tom Welling) to put on the red, and blue suite and finally become the hero he has been reluctant to become. Sure, it was fun for a while to see Clark slowly develop into that less well known superhero "the blur," but this show cannot make a graceful exit without Superman taking flight. (Premiere Date: September 24th)

Vampire Diaries: Will Damon hook up with Elena?

Let's face it, Stefan's a bore, and this show really needs for the Stefan-Elena-Damon love triangle to blossom. And who hasn't suspected for a while that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has real feelings for Elena? Well it's time to make good on those feelings and for Elena (Nina Dobrev) to take a walk on the wild and dark side with Damon. I am sure she will eventually come to her senses and want Stefan back as the second season comes to a closes, but for now, the CW should let the relationship be. Of course Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) will have her say in this relationship triangle (or is it a quadrangle) as well. (Premiere Date: September 9th)

Supernatural: Dean and Sam versus the Vampire craze?

With vampires being the current supernatural rage in Hollywood, it is only natural that the Winchester boys would include a show this season that centers on the nocturnal creatures. The fact that it has been announced that this particular genre will be spoofed on a future show this season makes waiting for the episode that much more fun. While I am sure Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki will have much more important things to do this season, it will be nice to see them to take pot shots at the vampire craze along the way. (Premiere Date: September 24th)

Smallville: Will we see the return of Lex Luther?

As much as I would love to see Clark Kent finally take to the air, it would also be great to see the return of Clark's Smallville frenemy Lex Luther (Michael Rosenbaum). Though it has already been reported that both Lionel Luther and Jonathon Kent (John Schneider) will make appearances this season, the CW has been mum on whether or not we will see the return of Lex Luther. I am sure if there is anyway for the network to work Lex's return into the final season, they will do so. For right now, fans of Smallville can only wait. (Premiere Date: September 24th)

Hellcats: Is Hellcat the new Glee?

A few years ago I would have laughed at the notion for this show which will center on Marti Perkins (Alyson Michalka), a pre-law student with a revoked scholarship, making the school's cheerleading squad (and earning a new scholarship) as a way to stay in school. I guess if geeks all over American can have Glee, then the more popular crowd can have their own show as well. Curiosity has the best of me, and thus I will watch what becomes of this show. (Premiere Date: August 8, 2009)

One Tree Hill: Working a baby into the script

Having survived the departure of both Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton), One Tree Hill keeps will be back stronger than ever. This year the show will have to work Bethany Joe Galeotti pregnancy into the mix. How do they plan to do that? Easy, Haley (Bethany's character) will be expecting a baby on the show as well. (Premiere Date: September 14th)

Gossip Girls: A Paris opener for the new season

If nothing else, the season premier of Gossip Girls looks to be must watch TV. The show was shot in Paris over the summer (picking up where last season left off), and from what I have seen of the previews, it will make for a nice lead in to the show's fourth season. Of course, I basically watch the show to see what mischief Blair (Leighton Meester) and Serena (Blake Lively) get themselves. (Premiere Date: September 13th)

America's Next Top Model: Cycle 15 already?

Hard to believe we are already up to cycle 15 in the search for America's Next Top Model, but then again this show of ultra thin girls with super fragile self esteem is a reality buffs dreams come true. Once you get past the fact that the girls you see in pictures are mostly manufactured and that true beauty mostly likely lies elsewhere (like maybe the girl next door), you come to realize that America's Next Top Model is to reality TV what a piece of cheese cake is to a full course meal. That the show, which always takes itself way to serious for its own good, remains popular after 14 cycles says a lot about our TV watching habits...or at least about my watching habits. (Premiere Date: September 8th)

The Vampire Diaries: Vampires, Witches and Werewolves... Oh my...

According to executive producer Kevin Williamson, there was "too much vampire story to tell to launch the werewolf mythology last season." That of course means that this season we can expect the Lockwood family secret to be that they are a race of werewolves. Which is cool, after all Mystic Falls is already home to both vampires and witches, so why not werewolves? (Premiere Date: September 9th)

Nikita: DejaVu

If nothing else, I will be watching the premier of the CW's latest incarnation of Nikita to see how this version of the rogue assassin compares to those of past movies and television series. Here's hoping that Maggie Q's version of the hit woman is at least half as good as Peta Wilson's.
