Ten Recycling Tips for Corks: A Recycle Program

I recently began a recycle program for corks. Here are ten recycling tips to use them. Cheers!

Create a pour spout for cooking oil bottles. Find a cork that fits. Then, cut 1/4" wedge down the length. Slip the cork into the neck to slow oil flow. This is a chefs' trick and it works.

Have a Tuscan theme party and use corks as card holders. Slit a cork or tie three corks together for holders. They don't even need to be the same size.

Put corks on the end of sharp points such as tacks and ice picks in junk drawers.

Create craft stamps. Cut designs with an exacto knife. Or, shape corks into stars, circles or hearts. Then, dip in paint or ink. To clean, soak one hour 1-3 parts rubbing alcohol and water.

Keep corks in your jewelry box. When you lose earring backs, snip off a piece for replacement.

Use corks for knitting needle tips when they aren't in use. No more losing a stitch plus nothing gets poked.

For Little League season, burn the end of a cork and let cool. Then, rub the singed end under eyes to keep down glare while on the field.

Pulverize corks in a food processor to add to potting soil for houseplants. They help prevent water evaporation.

Poke holes through corks and string together to decorate a wine-themed Christmas tree. Or, add them to strings of lights for parties.

Slice cork ends for furniture legs. Add a drop of glue and stick onto the bottom of the leg. They protect hardwood floors when furniture is moved. Cork slices also stabilize wobbly tables.
