Ten rumors about me I thought I'd end by telling which ones are not true and which ones are.
Rumor #1: I'm divorced. This is false. I have never been married. This rumor came about when I went to a high school reunion with a girlfriend. While I was getting drinks someone introduced her as my wife. She did not correct them. Coincidentally, the next day she broke up with me.
Rumor #2: I'm gay. This is false. For whatever reason people think since I have never been married that I am gay. I'm not.
Rumor #3: I never wanted to get married. False. Things just didn't work out that way. But as long as I'm still breathing there's a chance.
Rumor # 4: I did not graduate from high school. This is false. I did not graduate with my class because I needed history credits. I took a correspondence course through Washington State University and got the credits needed. I was granted my high school diploma in the fall of the same year my classmates graduated.
Rumor #5: I received over 100 rejection before having my first piece of writing published in a print magazine. True. When I started writing there was no internet so the only place a person could get published was in print magazines.
Rumor # 6: I have been published in print magazines over 1,000 times. True. I was first published in a local magazine then I moved on to Christian teen/young adult magazines. I also have been published in several writer's magazines and local newspapers.
Rumor #7: One of my article was reprinted in print magazines over an eight year period. True. Writing the Christian Teen/Young Adult Short Story was first published in 1993 and last published in 2001. It was published an average of once a year. I was paid every time it was published.
Rumor # 8: I have a degree in auto mechanics. True. Although I never pursued a career in auto mechanics I did attend Spokane Community College and received the diploma.
Rumor # 9: I smoke. False. I have never smoked. It has never made any sense to me to take a bunch of dried up leaves rolled in a piece of paper, shove it into my mouth and light it afire. My goodness, you could burn the end of your nose lighting the damn thing!
Rumor # 10: I drink. False, but has not always been so. I quit drinking about twenty years ago. I used to carouse on Friday or Saturday night. One morning I woke up with a hangover and asked myself what I was doing. The answer was throwing my money away just to wake up with a hangover. That was the moment I quit drinking.

Post a CommentThank you for clearing up those rumors, Richard. I wouldn't care if any of those were flip-flopped either. But all good to know. And Go YOU for your reprint so many times. That is brilliant. I love being able to write online but am sad that print is... too sad to say it...
