Ten Stocking Stuffers for Geeks

A Gift-list for the Nerd, Geek, Dork, or Gamer in Your Life

What to buy your favorite geek/nerd/dork/etc. this year? Thinking of something small and different to stuff their stockings with or to give them for Hanukkah presents? Look no further. Here are some excellent ideas for how to please that nerd in your life.

10. World of Warcraft TCG Cards
Yes, the massive multiplayer online game has moved offline and into a collectible trading card game. A starter kit won't fit in a stocking, but the booster packs will. At 15 cards for about $5.00 USD they're a perfect stocking stuffer. Artwork by a variety of sources, including Samwise and Penny-Arcade. And while on the topic of WoW

9. World of Warcraft Swag
Buttons! Pins! Stickers! Show your affiliation with class and race pins. All of which can be bought through Jinx online (which also sells spiffy t-shirts, hats, and hoodies) or through your local Hot-Topic retailer.

8. Gift Cards
You can't go wrong with gift-cards to a favorite game store, book store, retailer, or even free subscription time to their favorite online RPG. Suggestions include: EB Games, Best Buy, Circuit City, Borders, Barnes and Noble, Fry's Electronics, and CompUSA

7. D&D Miniatures
While the 'to scale' dragons won't fit in a stocking, the narrow figure packs will. You can never go wrong with a pack of minis, whether they're for tabletop enhancement or for the full scale miniature wargaming. And not just D&D, there are miniatures available for just about any fantasy/sci-fi genre. Warhammer, LotR, Historical…

6. Candy
Nuff Said. They're gamers…

5. Manga & Comics
Manga is the Japanese answer to comic books. (Simplified explanation!) Manga comes in a variety of genres and subjects ranging from techno to gothic. And comic books (not the larger graphic novels) fit perfectly into a stocking. Just be sure your Geek won't be mad to find them out of the protective covering.

4. Cartoon Swag
Family Guy, Invader Zim, Strongbad, Nightmare Before Christmas, Aqua Teen Hunger Force - all of these are highly popular animated works that geeks adore. Plenty of trinkets can be found for any cartoon fan at (again) Hot Topic or a Spencer's Gifts or through Cartoon Network's online shops.

3. Useful things
Useful things for geeks… Microfiber cleaning cloth for glasses and monitors, mechanical pencils and refills (great for making notes on Character-sheets), coasters for sodas at the computer, erasers (never around when you need one), retractable pens…

2. Dice
Dice. Dice come in more than just the usual six-sided kind. Most tabletop role playing games need a 20 sider as well as a variety of other shapes and sizes. Dice can be found in all sorts of varieties and materials, including a custom made wooden set from Hallowed Tree Furniture. Chessex online offers a wide variety of styles online to view if you cannot locate them locally. Dice make a great stocking stuffer, especially if added in a handy carrying bag or pouch.

1. Pocky
What is it about this Japanese treat? It's a wafer stick covered in chocolate or a wide variety of other flavors. There's just something addictive about Pocky. You can find it in international stores or Japanese groceries. Some comic book shops will retail them due to their popularity amongst the geek set.

Here's hoping that special geek in your life has a happy holiday season!
