Here are ten facts you need to know about the Boston Red Sox.

1. The Red Sox played in the very first World Series, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games.

2. The Red Sox have sold out every game at Fenway Park since May of 2003.

3. Babe Ruth was originally a pitcher for the Red Sox with a record of 89 wins, 46 losses, from 1914 through 1918.

4. Ted Williams, considered the greatest hitter ever, was the last player to hit over .400 in a season, hitting .406 in 1941. He played his entire career with the Red Sox.

5. Carl Yastremski (Yaz), was the last player in Major League Baseball to win the Triple Crown in 1967. A left fielder win the Red Sox, he accomplished this while hitting 44 homeruns, 121 RBI's, and batting .326.

6. The Red Sox beat the St. Loius Cardinals in four games to win their first World Series in 86 years in 2004.

7. The Red Sox won another World Series, beating the Colorado Rockies in four games in 2007.

8. The Sox have retired six numbers worn by their best players. #1 Bobby Doerr, #4 Joe Cronin, #8 Carl Yastremski, #9 Ted Williams, #27 Carlton Fisk, and #42 which has been retired by all all Major League clubs, Jackie Robinson.

9. David Ortiz hit more home runs in a single season than any other Red Sox player ever with 54 in 2006.

    Technically Fact #1 is incorrect. They were not known as the Red Sox when they won the first World Series.
