1. Avoid accessing your banking accounts or using credit/debit card details in a cyber café/shared computer.

2. To access the site of financial transaction by typing the correct URL in your browser window. Never click a link that offers to take you to website.

3. Every time you complete your online transaction, log off from the site and close the browser window. Do not directly close the browser window or leave it like that.

4. If your login IDs or password appear automatically on the sign-in page of a secure website, disable the "Auto Complete" function. At the same time do not accept auto remember option in your browser for such sites.

5. Use letters, numbers and special characters (such as ! @ $ %^ & , *) in your passwords to make it more complex and difficult for others to guess. Most of the sites appear a feature which shows the password strength. Ensure your password had adequate strength.

6. Never share your passwords with others. Do not forget to change the password immediately after first issue. Do not write your password anywhere, remember it.

7. Do not respond to any mails asking for confidential information like PIN, password or account number or asking you to change them.

8. Always check for Padlock icon (there is a de facto standard among web browsers to display a Padlock icon somewhere in the window of the browser).

9. Check the URL of the web page. When browsing the web, the URLs begin with the letters "http". However, over a secure connection, the address displayed should begin with "https"-note the "s" at the end.

10. Always check the last log-in to your account. Normally it is displayed immediately as you log on. Check if any log-in in between has taken place.
