Labor Day is a holiday given to various workers nationwide as a day to rest, relax and enjoy being with their families. It is time to reap the rewards of your hard labor throughout the year and enjoy a day off to do something you enjoy. Celebrating Labor Day does not have to be an expensive ordeal; in fact you can throw a party on a budget using these tips.

1. Have a BBQ in the backyard. It doesn't have to be anything fancy other than hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. The thing that counts is that you are enjoying yourself and having a delicious meal.

2. Head to the park and have a picnic. Go to the website of your city and find out what parks are nearby. Pack a lunch and grab a blanket and sit on the grass and enjoy your meal. You'll be surprised at how nice nature can be, and its free, too!

3. Rent a few movies from Redbox as these only cost $1/night. You can have a family day in and just watch Redbox movies and eat popcorn. Choose titles that in the genre of having fun and enjoying one's self as this is what you'll be doing today.

4. Take a road trip out to the nearest lake, mountain or other place of nature. This is a great way to unwind, relax and enjoy nature at its finest. You might even be able to go fishing or watch for animals in the wild such as birds and deer.

5. Have a potluck. Potlucks are a great way to save money as each family only has to make one dish and bring it for everyone to share. All the families can get together and delight in the meal brought forth to them. Its also a way to try many dishes at once and exchange "secret" recipes.

6. Enjoy the pool just one more time. Sure, summer is ending, but who says you can't get wet? While outdoor pools may already be closed at this time, indoor pools stay open all year long. Your city's website should have a schedule and locations of indoor pools that are open.

7. As a laborer, your life is probably pretty busy. You are always occupied with work, family, social gatherings, etc. This day is supposed to be a time to relax. So why not sleep in, cuddle up with a good book and just hang out all day? It will give you some time to catch up on your rest and leave you refreshed for the next day.

8. Call up some friends and see if there is something they want to do such as bowling, playing pool or heading to the movies. If you are going with friends, you usually only have to pay for yourself and these activities should cost you under $10 which is great for those on a budget.

Great suggestions! (^;^) Trouble is, I'd like to do every one, and that would require a week of "Labor Days." Maybe, they could all be combined into an enjoyable week-long home town "cheap vacation" without having the added expense of leaving your own local area...
