Ten Tips on How to Look Your Most Glamourous for Prom!

Katie E. Frank
Spring has rolled around again and its time for proms, graduations and semi-formals! So what are you going to do for the big night?

Here are some tips to help you look and feel your most glamorous for the big night out!

1. Be picky. One make up tip I've been giving all my prom make up clients is to pick either your eyes OR your mouth, but never both. So how do you decide which to go with? Take a cue from your compliments. Do people always tell you you have pretty eyes? Or are you always hearing how 'Ëœgood that gloss looks on you'? If you decide to go with bold dark eyes, pair them with a plainly glossed lip or nude color. If you play up your pout, tone the eyes down with some soft shimmer and pair it with poppy pink lips or a daring orange.

2. Don't wax that day. At least not anything on your face. Your skin could re-act, you may need to be re-shaped, you could get a tear, someone could take off half your eyebrow '" the risks are just too high. Get your facial waxing done a day or two before the event. This also gives your skin time to heal and be back to normal so that you can properly conceal without having to match too many colors.

3. Do your mani/pedi the night before. You don't want this done too far in advance as you can get chips or dulled polish by the time your big night rolls around. You'll be so busy running around trying to do hair and make up that day and the chances of smudging will be much higher. Give yourself less stress on the day of and get this errand out of the way before hand.

4. Don't be afraid to fake it. False lashes and spray tans are the biggest trends this year! And both are totally safe and totally fun! Spray tans should be done about 2 days before, so that you have time for the color to really sit on your skin and to avoid looking like Snooki. False lashes (or falsies) can applied by a make up artist for you, usually at a minimal cost.

5. Clear skin is the best make up tip. Make up is a wonderful tool for accentuating your face but no one looks good hiding behind a mask of cakey liquid coverup. So to prepare for the big day, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, apply your moisturizer religiously day and night and don't pick at your skin. It's much easier to cover up a blemish that hasn't been torn open. Concealer should only be used to cover blemishes and redness and always be sure to blend foundation
well along the jaw line.

6. Don't let your dress over (or under) power you. A bold dress calls for bold make up and a pastel or girly one requires a softer look. A smoldering black gown will drown you if not grounded with the right smokey or cat eye. And the charm of a spring-like light frock will be lost without a shimmer or neutral look.

7. Let your hair stand out: This is one time to let your inner diva shine! If you usually keep your long hair up in a messy bun try loose glamorous waves. If your stick straight chic bob is your go to look, curl it and stick a fun flower clip in for some flare. Be sure to book this appointment plenty in advance as these are the first ones to go!

8. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate! Use a body scrub every other day for about two weeks leading up to your event. Exfoliating dead skin cells away will give way to brighter newer skin. These products can be applied dry for best results (standing in your tub) and then rinsed off in the shower. Concentrate on areas that tend to get dry '" knees, elbows, knuckles, back of your shoulders. Always be sure to apply a rich, creamy lotion after to keep your skin feeling and looking silky
smooth.

9. Highlighter vs. Bronzer. Not every skin tone looks good with brown powder. So take that into consideration before piling on the
"bronzer". A fairer skin will look much more natural with a soft pink or nude colored shimmer to highlight the cheek and brow bones. Olive skin tones should seek out an almost green under tone in their bronzer. Another trick is to take a white shimmer powder and draw a martini glass on the chest area. This will help to highlight the collar bone and create depth.

10. Essentials for your purse or clutch: You'll want to have a small bag with some necessities including a gloss for touch ups, blotting papers to help with shiny skin, a small hairspray to tame flyaways, a mini nail file, travel pack of tissues, maybe a pair of flats for after the pictures and breath mints or gum (for the end of thenight -- ). And of course don't forget your camera!!

Remember the most beautiful accessory is always a smile, so have fun and be gorgeous!
