Christmas shopping can certainly be costly. The more people on your shopping list the more you will be likely to spend. Here are ten tips to help you get your Christmas shopping done cheap! Saving money doesn't have to mean cutting back on gifts or sacrificing quality. It simply means shopping carefully and at the right places!
1. The first tip I can give you that will help you to get more this year is to start shopping earlier in the year! Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving? Why not? The earlier you start your Christmas shopping the longer you will have during the season to shop. You get a little every week and set the gifts aside. This way when the week before Christmas is here you will not be needing a large sum of money to shop with. Your shopping will already be mostly done with only a thing or two left to purchase. No debt!
2. The second tip that will help you save money Christmas shopping is to not use your credit cards. It is convenient to buy now and pay later but in the end people spend a lot more. Credit cards make it too easy to spend. We have good intentions and want all of the people on the list to be pleased with the gifts we get them but we can not allow ourselves to go into debt in the process. When people pay with cash rather than credit the actual amount is less, no matter how much you buy. No interest is paid.
3. The third tip that can help you to spend less this holiday season is to make the list! The shopping list. Make a Christmas shopping list. Add to it each person's name that you plan on buying gifts for. Leave blank spaces between the names so that you can also write down gift ideas. Having a list means knowing exactly who to shop for. No one is forgotten and you can gain a realistic idea of how many gifts you will need to buy.
4. The fourth tip that will help you get more for less this Christmas is to limit the number of gifts per person. How many gifts does each person on the list get? If you have no idea until your are in the store shopping you are likely to get one person more than the other, or less. Also, you are likely to spend more on each person because there is no set limit.
5. The fifth tips that can help you to save this year is to choose your gift items carefully. People don't need fancy things to be pleased. It is and always has been the thought that counts, not the price tag. Many gift items are available. The most expensive are not necessarily the best.
6. The sixth tip that will get you more for less this holiday season is to choose your store wisely. A fancy department store will have great gift items, yes. However a retail or outlet store will most likely have the same gifts for half the cost. Why pay more at one store when you can pay less for the same exact thing at another store?
7. The seventh tip I can give on saving money this Christmas is to go to the dollar store. The dollar store is the most wonderful place to get stocking stuffers and gifts for kids. You can get the little ones a whole bunch of puzzles, books, crayons, and toys for only one dollar per item! If you were to shop at even Wal-Mart for the same items you would pay two to three times more. You really can get a whole lot more for less at the dollar store. You can also find great decorating items and even your Christmas cards there too.
8. The eighth tip that can help you to give more for less is to make things by hand. Home made crafts can be given as gifts from the heart. People love the fact that you've taken the time to create something special and just for them. It has more meaning than simply picking something off of a shelf and calling it good. Crafted items will be cherished for always. It also feels good to give something you've made with your own two hands.
9. The ninth tip that will help you get more for less this Christmas shopping season is to buy online. EBay and other shopping sites offer great items at a fraction of the cost. Many, if not most, of the items you'll find online are brand new just never used. Buy the gifts cheap and wrap them beautifully! The same items, not the same prices.
10. The tenth and last tip I have to help you save a ton of money this holiday season is to give gift cards. Many times younger people have certain things that they want and those things are not likely the gift ideas you had in mind for them. Say you'd love to get your niece a lovely cardigan sweater this year. The cost is fifty dollars. If your niece is a teen she'd probably rather have a twenty five dollar gift card that she can go to a department store with and use on her favorite new CD or movie. The sweater would just sit in the closet. The gift card would save you money and buy her something she truly wants and will use! Thanks for reading and take care.
