1) A simple change of lighting can make a huge difference in the atmosphere of your bedroom. You can shop at the local stores or on-line, and you will be able to find light bulbs of varying colors. From the typical red or pink to a purple or black light, there will be colors to suit any taste, and it is relatively inexpensive to purchase one. You can put a colored bulb into a lamp or, in the absence of lamps, in the overhead fixture. Such bulbs can be purchased on-line at www.buylighting.com. There are colored compact fluorescent light bulbs for $5.75. When I had the shipping and taxes calculated for my address, there was no extra charge for shipping.
2) Of course, you will want to make sure the linens are changed, and a nice dark colored bedding will make an excellent contrast to the lighting and any light colored lingerie. On the other hand, light bedding will make darker colored lingerie stand out and reflect the colored lighting. Again, this is a matter of the opinion of the persons involved.
3) For extra ambiance, and for the matter of perfuming the air, candles are excellent in both respects. A nice, subtle scent like vanilla or cinnamon can make the air quite delicious while the flickering candles lend romance to the room. Of course, there are so many scents available, the favorite scent of one or both halves of the couple can find a scent to please them. Scented candles are also able to be found in such stores as the Dollar Tree, where everything is a dollar.
4) On Valentine's Day, who can forget flowers? A pretty bouquet sitting on the night stand or headboard not only shows thoughtfulness, it can add to the perfume in the air while making the room that much lovelier. You do not have to have roses, but I do not think many people would complain about that. Even if a dozen or half-dozen stretches the budget, a single red rose is a sweet gift, and it would not be as painful to the wallet.
5) You can also get some roses (or other flowers), and remove the petals to spread across the bed. This romantic and sexy gesture can be accomplished for the price of one or two roses, and flower petals will release their scent when crushed, so that scent will make itself known during romantic moments. The scent of the preferred flowers will always call to mind the wonderful Valentine's Day experience for both partners.
6) A nice touch for the evening would be a bottle of wine sitting on the night stand or headboard with two appropriate glasses. If you like red wines, that is all you will need. However, if you like blush or white, or if you can afford to spring for champagne, all you need is a pretty bowl filled with ice to chill the wine. There are many medium-priced wines to be had. You should just ask at a local liquor store for a brand in your price range that is popular.
7) Of course, you cannot forget the music! If you pay attention to the tastes of your partner or spouse, perhaps you can make a CD of his or her favorite romantic tunes, or you can make a play-list on the computer to play during your time together. Do not forget to add some of your favorites, as well. This will show that the night is about the two of you, not just one or the other.
8) Another nice touch would be to dress for the occasion, and make sure the colors are suitable to the lighting and color scheme you choose. You are a part of the room, so you need to be transformed, as well. Ladies can find affordable lingerie at the local department store or Walmart on clearance. Also, there are on-line options to find something nice to wear for the occasion. www.victoriassecret.com has sales, and they have an in-site search engine to assist with what you want. However, it is a lot less expensive to go to Walmart and hit their clearance rack. Men can simply dig out those nice, silky boxers or whatever their partner prefers. Dress for each other, and enjoy the results.
9) Scented massage oils lend a loving relaxing note to the evening. Giving a massage can be as relaxing as receiving one. Also, you would be amazed at how touched (no pun intended) a person would be if you rub their feet.
10) Finally, to top off the enjoyable transformation of the bedroom, get locks for the door. Nothing can be as distracting as worrying that a child or room mate might come waltzing into the room. That would definitely keep the inhibitions from dropping and put a pall on the evening.
I hope these tips are helpful, and I hope that everyone is able to turn their bedrooms into a one-night paradise for Valentine's Day. Enjoy!
