Kids love Halloween, and what better time to get them interested in books? These ten Halloween books are excellent choices to get young children enthusiastic about books.

Five Little Pumpkins by Dan Yaccarino. An excellent story for ages 1 ½ and up. Children can easily understand this story of five pumpkins sitting on the gate when a ghost and witches go by. This Halloween book will leave children smiling at the sight of the five pumpkins leaving the gate and joining in the Halloween fun.

I'm Not Afraid of Halloween by Dane Bauer. This is a delightful story of a boy who is handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Each page of this book has a great pop-up or flap that reveals the different trick-or-treaters coming to his door. After seeing a mummy, ghost, Frankenstein and a witch and showing no fear, the last Halloween visitors who send him running in fear to his father's arms are . . . a bunny, kitten and a fairy! Very fun book for young children.

Trick or Treat, Little Critter by Gina and Mercer Mayer. Children will love hearing about the Little Critters and how they celebrate Halloween. This book has everything from picking out Halloween costumes and candy, going on a hay ride, visiting a pumpkin patch, carving a jack-o-lantern, and of course going trick-or-treating. An excellent book to teach children about Halloween traditions.

Happy Halloween, Curious George by N.T. Raymond and Kelly Loughman. A curious monkey, Halloween costumes, Jack-o-lanterns, treat or treating and a costume party are a perfect mix for a great Halloween story kids will love!

Dora's Spooky Halloween by Sonail Fry. Dora fans will delight in this story of Dora trying to decide what costume she should choose for Halloween. Readers will have fun guessing until the last page what Dora will choose for her costume.

Corduroys Trick-or-Treat by Don Freeman. Corduroy goes to a Halloween party. This is an excellent book to teach young children about Halloween parties and how fun they can be!

Clifford's First Halloween by Norman Bridwell. As a puppy, Clifford's first Halloween is full of activity. Children will get quite a laugh when they see Clifford get stuck in cotton candy.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. An all time favorite. The story of Max and his encounters with the Wild Things that he encounters when his room becomes a forest. Outstanding pictures kids and adults will love.

The Perky Little Pumpkin by Margaret Friskey. The story of perky little pumpkin who only wants to scare someone, but doesn't scare anyone at all when he is put out on Halloween night. The surprise ending will put a smile on the reader's face.

Eerie Feary Feeling: A Hairy Scary Pop-Up Book by Joy N. Hulme. Beautiful illustrations and Halloween pop-ups fill this book. Kids and adults will enjoy the pop-ups and brief story of each pop picture.

    Excellent way to get kids interested in books. Halloween stories are always so colorful and the characters are ususally easy to relate to. Great sugguestions for kids books!
